Solid comedy!
kattatonic16 November 2019
I didn't used to like Seth. I didn't dislike him but, nothing. He's been growing on me slowly the last couple years as a late night host. This special put him into my current favourites. Solid laughs all the way through out loud here by myself. So happy you didn't make it all about politics, and it was all funny.

Genuinely Worthwhile.
swordsnare12 November 2019
Was surprised I enjoyed it so much, not that I had low expectations of Seth himself. Due to the barrage of not-so-great Netflix comedy specials; especially the number of ones the include talent who don't normally do standup. This was a rare treat and found myself laughing quite audibly throughout.

There was mention (by another review) of the unusual framing of the filmography, but that didn't distract me personally from the general comedic content for too long.

Surprised me
Daviteo28 January 2024
I've never known too much about Seth himself outside of him being on SNL and having his own late-night show. But he brought an A-Game to this comedy special in a personal and often touching way.

You can tell he loves his kids and his wife and deals with those issues in a self-deprecating way. He's especially good at tying everything up together and sticking the landing at the end in a way that few comics are able to do.

I'd suggest anyone who enjoys stand-up, especially longer-form one-hour specials instead of just YouTube clips, check this out. Was pleasantly surprised by the entirety of the show and laughed pretty hard a few times (he's good at outlandish metaphors).

Not Political
mattwhite2823 November 2019
This a response to the handful of people complaining about the Trump bashing. He only talks about politics for about 10 minutes in the middle of the set, and he had Netflix add a "skip the politics" option if you didn't want to hear it. What exactly are you complaining about? He has an opinion, and you should be okay with that. He was also thoughtful enough to give you the option to ignore it in the event that you're not okay with it. Can you not just relax, and enjoy something without getting all bent out of shape if someone doesn't 100% agree with your views?

Something for everyone?
canberkemri9 November 2019
I am a big fan of Seth's work and this standup special is no different. The writing is really smart and well thought out and his delivery is perfect as always. I suggest everyone to watch this to have a good time because it is the kind of show which everyone can find something they relate to! I hope he does more stabdup specials in the future

A mediocre comedy special that feels like he cheated and has to make up for it to his wife.
silvana_popa30 December 2019
The only way I can justify why a great comedian like him would do this is if he tried to compensate for getting caught cheating by vouching that if wifey won't leave and take the kids, he'll write a whole special dedicated to her.

Not the best comedy material, but it makes for great ideas on how to avoid divorce.

Top notch comedy
talkme-5063614 November 2019
I didn't care much for Seth meyers before this and just put it on for something to watch. I was laughing from the start, seths standup style is nothing like his rigid persona on Late Night. He reminded me a bit of John mulaney at points

Very safe and scripted hour long monologue
geekoutmetal22 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Everything is safe and then its a return to his week night routines and then Trump bashing. I am not even American and can see its just taking shots that he takes on his own late night shows. Its the same with all the late show hosts, the only time they do or say anything political is when they see that the crowd is getting bored. Its a safe place and an easy target. Then its back to safety of the plain jokes that every other 99% of the comedians do in their shows. Even when he does the whole fatherhood thing he says that he can't even do that right. Its a boring scripted show taking aim at things that others like him keeping say and its the same boring jokes and laughs, sadly. Was expecting much more. 1 2 3 4 5 6 x10mins and its over.

Production-Camera framing
moretea11 November 2019
I'd like to give it a higher rating but I was continually distracted by the poor framing of the close up shots. It seems like none of the CU camera operators understand appropriate head room and talk space. I understand the occasional want or need to be creative here or there but to give consistently improper framing on your subject is a huge distraction for the entire piece. I kept finding myself leaning to somehow center-up and tilt up the shots. Were there monitors used in the live shoot? I can't see a director saying that's exactly how it should look. Even when the occasional shot that looks good and is using exaggerated head room or framing, now looks forced because it wasn't used as a unique statement.

I actually thought I couldn't love him more!
robinparker31111 November 2019
I feel like I need to preface this review w an honest statement that I love basically everything about Seth Meyers & always have. Even the word 'basically' is questionable - I can't think of anything I don't love about him. So much so that some nights I only watch Late Night for the first 15 or so minutes because I will never (& HAVE never) miss Seth's monologues & topical commentary/comedy skits/parodies on the off chance that I just don't have time to watch the whole show. I have never missed even one of his opening bits or a single 'weekend update' piece & even his early improv, the little bit that you might find if you search really well, is totally solid. I also think he was the second best writer ever on SNL, second only to Tina Fey - pretty good company, right?

That being said, I was prepared to be at least slightly disappointed w his stand up. I've often thought about seeing him live but it's somewhat rare & usually nowhere near where I live. Plus, honestly, I get to enjoy him 5 nights a week (ok, that 'hinted suggestion' is a bit over the top, but it's another reason I love Seth - anyone who looks that good & is also that funny is just so lovable). So for what it's worth, I thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic hour watching one of my absolute favorite humans do some of the best stand up I've seen. Something about him is so entirely entertaining & witty, yet so easily relatable. Because of his relationship w his family (who DOESN'T love Larry, Hilary & Josh?), his undeniable respect for his wife Alexi & obvious love for his boys, I just can't imagine anyone not liking him. That's part of what's so great about this special - It's just 'Seth being Seth', but instead of monologues or lead ins & punchlines you get solid stand up. Also, admittedly, it's kind of fun to hear him drop a few F-bombs without being 'bleeped'. I'm not saying this is for everyone, some people may not like Seth (how that's possible I don't know, but to each his/her own, I suppose) - but if you like Late Night w Seth Meyers, if you liked him on SNL & you find him funny in general you will undoubtedly thoroughly enjoy this Netflix special. As I said, I was prepared to be disappointed because the bar was set so high (my own doing, but I'll blame him for being SO off the charts talented) but I was anything but disappointed. This is just GREAT stand up.

That being said, it's not my absolute FAVORITE standup show ever - people who JUST do stand up are often SO well prepared, have perfect timing & truly have their craft down pat, but it is definitely fantastic stand up & given all his other talents, I was surprised to see that he is simply so very good at stand up.

Check this out people, you won't be disappointed. Seth is a class act, a humorist at heart & just a good guy w a great sense of humor - watch it, you'll have at least one good hour that day.

Refreshing style of comedy
managementbykristi10 November 2019
I've always loved Seth and this special was the icing on the cake. It's done in his own personal style which I think works in this type of setting since he's very relaxed and conversational. And there were the funny little extras like his Skip button and the bit with his wife. Loved it.

Oh Sethie

This gig is like your excited friend telling you all about how he got married and had babies. You want him to shut up, but you are too polite and just chuckle away like it's all funny, because the booze is free.

Seth Meyers is the funniest comedian Netflix has ever recorded and we are only half way through his show! We have laughed non-stop. I literally paused the show to write a review. We almost never comment on anything we rate, but this guy is absolutely freakin' funny!

One of the better stand-up specials I've seen
nataliecellini14 August 2020
I've been watching a lot of stand-up specials lately on Netflix and this was one of the funniest ones I've watched! I haven't actually laughed out loud at stand-up as much as I did with this one in a long time. His delivery is great.

finds great humor in some serious events
ksf-212 September 2022
Snl writer seth meyers does standup in minneapolis. Lots of jokes on not actually being jewish, in spite of common belief. Planning a wedding, married life, kids. Babysitting. Food poisoning. Really funny stuff! Able to find so much humor in some funny, awful life situations. Tragedy plus time equals comedy. This quote is generally attributed to mark twain. Truth! Very natural delivery, and humble style. Directed by neal brennan; has written and directed a whole lot of television. Several nominations for chappelle's show. They have worked together on a bunch of things. Meyers won the emmy for snl, with numerous nominations for his own late night show, as of this writing. Looking forward to watching more of meyers' standup!

Funny, but visually hard to watch
seamikey9 November 2019
Seth is a funny observational comic. I enjoyed seeing him out from behind a desk, but I think he could have been just as funny without resorting to the F-bombs dropped throughout the routine.

I had a hard time watching it due to the camera work.

If I could talk to the director personally, I would slap him for his choice of incredibly loose camera shots.

It seemed that two of the cameras were below stage level, and the operators had no clue how to properly frame a shot. Way too much headroom and "empty space". The "Rule of Thirds" does NOT apply in television.

Boring
ninnamarie13 November 2019
It's like spending an evening with an old annoying friend. Some of it was OK, but all around it was bland. I think I may had smiled once or twice. The political jokes are annoying, typical of this type of comedian. His talent is not even close to the likes of Chappelle, Burr and Gaffigan.
