The title of the episode is 'The Eternal Engineer' and last season we saw that the eternal engine is not eternal whatsoever. Consequently, I would allege that Mr. Wilford is not conducting the orchestra for too long himself. As for the episode, it was captivating, something the last two episodes were lacking. I understand that the plot needs to develop for the show's narrative, and overall the series is running at a steady speed. However, I feel that Melanie's (Jennifer Connelly) absence onscreen, has taken a valuable piece away from the show's allegory of status, gender and race. By the end of the first season, we see Melanie as a segue between Mr. Wilford's psychotic ideology and Layton's call for peace. Yet, Cavill is absent when the abundance of her pragmatism (though fully complicated) could exist to improve the storytelling. Ultimately, I am biased because I genuinely enjoy Connelly's character so possibly I have no merit. Seeing Layton in chains, after I thought the end credits were about the appear created so much anticipation for the finale. Is Miss Audrey and Alexandra going to team up together and help the train or has the singer defected mind, body and soul? Is icy Bob such a terrible guy? What is Josie going to do or risk with her newfound ability? And, where the hell is Melanie? Several what-ifs are keeping the speed, which provides the potential for the second season to end in a much more meaningful and impacting way than the first season. I have not felt this raw excitement for a finale in quite a while. Let us just hope that Melanie is there to catch her train.
