With the exception of The Masked Singer (2019) all nominated TV shows have been canceled in the USA by the time the award show was made. Furthermore JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012) was the only show that was not made in the USA.
During the promotion Derek Savage announced in a video update that he wanted to invite Adam Johnston to the show to make peace with him. Johnston reviewed and criticized Savage's projects Cool Cat Saves the Kids (2015) and 420 AWARDS - 1st Annual Event (2019) and made fun of them which caused Savage to hate Johnston. However later the video was removed and Johnston did not arrive at the show.
All categories were voted on the official 420-awards website. However at some moments the winners and the most voted titles were different. While "Joker" had the most votes with 43% out of 3390 votes for "Favorite KICK ASS MOVIE", Derek Savage announced "John Wick 3" as the winner.
Derek Savage originally wanted to live-stream the event together with his new project "Cool Cat Flips A House" which would cost each viewer $4,20 per view. During to the Corona virus pandemic he decided not to cancel the event but instead decided to prerecord it and to post the edited show online for free as a 43minute video. Unlike last year there were no show acts shown except for a person in a safety suit, accepting the awards and dancing and Alistair Cooper announcing the nominees for "Favorite DOCUMENTARY".
While in 2019 during the 420 AWARDS - 1st Annual Event (2019) only one Derek Savage production was nominated for a 420 award (and won it), this year there are two of them who both won, "Cool Cat is Cool" by Linda Hopkins, the theme song for Derek Savage's movies Cool Cat Saves the Kids (2015) and Cool Cat Kids Superhero (2018) as well as his documentary Gun Self-Defense for Women (2016). Derek Savage is the creator of this award as well as for some of the nominated movies and projects.
