Up on the Roof
kgraovac10 November 2023
To impress his new astronomer girlfriend, Sonny goes up to the roof to record his observations on Halley's Comet. When the door locks behind him, the girls are sent up one by one until there is no one left to serve the customers except Amy.

This is an average episode. All the characters are looking forward to getting off work early: Sonny for his date, Jan to resolve an argument with Richie, Dot to perform a one-woman play about Eleanor Roosevelt and Ginger has a reason she won't reveal. Ginger's secret isn't that big, and there is a sublot about her blackmailing Nancy that goes nowhere.

The funniest parts are Dot's ugly buckteeth that she wears when imitating Eleanor Roosevelt and when Sonny descends the building by rope and Nancy tries to pass it off as an aerial act.

It's also fun seeing the girls playing jump rope on the roof; Nancy and Howard having to pitch in to help poor Amy; and the ending when Amy shows off how much money she made in tips by working alone.

A new minor character - a female bartender with the curious name Frisco, appears for the first of six episodes. Her inclusion seems superfluous.

The script does not offer any formal introduction to the Ginger character and does not make any reference to her being new. In the coming episodes she is not given any defining traits aside from Sonny calling her "worldly". She will be given all of the Cassie lines but does not have Ann Jillian's comic timing or wicked delivery.

Gail Edwards' hair has been noticeably lightened and Barrie Youngfellow's is styled in a flattering style with waves.
