Interesting but...

I didn't catch the connection between stories. There are lots of things but it finished and I have lots of questions. Athmosper was very nice. I like the party scenes, colors..

Original and fascinating, but very dark and a bit depressing.
johannes2000-127 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This story about a dangerous and rapidly spreading kissing disease among high school students is definitely not the usual feel-good high school series, the atmosphere is very dark and depressing. At times even a bit too much, they maybe could have lightened it up by some humor.

The makers use various cinematographic forms, with at times beautiful images and dreamlike scenes. But more often the narrative gets blurred by all the arty mannerisms. As a result there's a lot that doesn't really gets explained (or it's of course my too simple brain!). Like what was the cause of the disease, or where did this strange sect come from, and how did they come up with their cure. There are also a few storylines that take substantial time, but have no relation to the main story. Like Chico's sexual encounter with the farmhand (by the way in itself boldly and very sensitively pictured!), and the genetic manipulation of the cattle (or did this have anything to do with the kissing disease??).

The acting was mostly okay, although some tried a bit too hard, especially the hysterical behavior of the principal of the school was extremely annoying. My personal favorite however was Michel Joelsas as Chico, he was very convincing in his demanding part.

Beautifully made, well acted, fascinating story
Moeilijker8 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first thing that struck me was the gorgeous cinematography and music/soundtrack. I love when the filmmakers get very creative and aren't afraid to tell the story in a unique way. It's very much aimed at emotions, filmed in an almost expressionistic style.

I like how the story is mostly focused on the teenagers, whilst not forgetting that the parents are very much still a part of the teenager's lives. The issues dealt with were handled very well I would say, and I'm curious to see their characters develop further in another season.

About the ending: so the virus seems linked to the teenager's emotional state. And that the parents try to help heal their children by literally holding them and singing to them, makes for a very interesting solution. It also makes me wonder what the creators are suggesting when it comes to modern medicine/science. I feel like the show doesn't want you to think about the sci-fi elements too deeply, it's more about the emotional story, rather than logic. And I think that's fine, though I can imagine that that makes it not for everyone.

At first thought it would be a mini series, but then after the credits of the last episode, it's clear they're aiming for a second season. And I was also wondering about that bottle that Fran's mother kept. Is this now the only medicine that they have? Because Manu needed more than one dose to keep the symptoms at bay. The nomadic "cult" people seem to have moved out by the end. So what about the teenagers in the village? Will their symptoms return? I'm not even sure a second season would answer all these questions, but it's certainly an intriguing ending.

Not terrible, but not great
pritchetts11421 February 2021
The plot moves far too slowly and there is just not enough substance to it. There could have been a few small scenes added to increase the drama, or show us why some characters do certain things. Why are the head mistresses' reactions all over the map regarding her most wayward charge? Does she have a secret crush? If so, show us! As if now, she just seems random for no reason.

There are only a few roles given a three dimensional treatment, the rest are not fully fleshed out. Instead of six episodes, this should have perhaps been a short movie. The best parts are the homoerotic scenes ranging from desperate, tender, to playfully aggressive. The English name is "The Kissing Game", but the Spanish name is "Mouth to Mouth". The description may have you thinking it's in the zombie genre, but uh, ...no, not the kind you are looking for. It is just interesting enough to keep watching, since its only six episodes, but I would have quit after second ep if it had been a longer series.

The trailer really does it no justice
lettremode-6855416 August 2020
I put this show on randomly to pass some time and it ended up as a huge, amazing surprise. Very artsy, unique cast chemistry - great acting too, by the way - and very current, daring themes. I love how simple, yet enchanting, the atmosphere feels. The main characters are amazing and it's not predictable at all. I look forward to many more seasons and more appreciation, it deserves it!

Kiss virus + young people catching themselves = epidemic.

An incredible production, with incredible performance and incredible photography .... to tell a story (storyline) half-heartedly.

When I saw this TV-serie in Netflix
topirantakivi24 July 2020
I vowed to watch this patiently to the end and to give my the final judgment. I did it and I suffered while watching. There the plot was no head or tail and I really hated this TV-serie. I hope that stupid stuff never will come with second season.

In times of pandemic crisis, a discussion of love is just one of the topics in this profound, exciting and engaging series. Waiting for more seasons. Great show, pure art.

It's okay, but a little messy

Warning: Spoilers
I love the underlying content. It's time to accept things for some to let be the younger ones open-minded. I didn't understand how did they get the virus from the mutated cattles? And exactly what effect was the gold liquid had? That's a little obscure.

Respect your time and don't watch this
ahmadfrie21 July 2020
Literally the baddest show i ever seen. The acting acceptable and sometimes cringe. The story is so bad who the heck write this thing it's so dump and psychopath and full of trite. Screenplay absolutely week childish. THE ONLY THING I LOVE IN THIS SERIES IS cinematography and camerawork. I believe that 10/10 review just a spam. please, keep away of this series

A great surprise!
real_banshee19 July 2020
Far from the clichés of so many Netflix shows, Boca a Boca/Kissing Game surprises several times with its good acting, great music choices and an artistic sense of beauty in the film making. The characters are credible, the action is well paced, and if I can't argue there are some moments that don't make complete sense, over all, the show delivered what I was hoping for. First time I watch a Brazilian show, and it won't be the last.

Stupid and Boring
jleeharris-3699120 September 2020
This has got to be one of the worst edited series I've ever seen. It jumps all over the place. I expected to see a Contagion type thriller and this is just one hot mess. don't waste your time.

Awesome!
kukkamaariasalokannel26 September 2020
Simply put it's just brilliant. It's so so beautiful. The scene with Chico standing by the window is probably the most beautiful scene ever. There's something so feminine in that scene and the moment later when he lays down on the bed. I love that Chico is muscular and knows what he wants instead of the usual small thin guy who's not sure what he wants. And Maurilio! Finally some diversity in the lgbtq+ characters. I probably love this series as much as Sense8. This has younger characters but I don't really mind that. They do an amazing job. Beautiful colours, beautiful music. I'm a bit worried if they can keep this up with the 2nd season (if there'll be one) but I really hope it will be a success as well. There's definitely more to the story than what is being spelled out.

Another cinema work that only aims satisfy what its consumers want putting aside any aesthetical experience
claudiusedmondolethard17 August 2021
What let this series lose its power is a problem present in the majority of film productions made for mainstream television, cinema and streamings (mainly but sometimes, present in indie or alternative too): a film built with an efficient aesthetic and narrative material to easily satisfy what its audience wishes to see. The result is a work with a beautiful visual, easy to apprehend, free of any quality of sensations related to an aesthetic experience.

The problems of the series is similar to aspects that makes CW's Riverdale so lame.

In this case the recipe follows as: a lot of pretty characters with models or mma fighters bodies, dark stories, twists desperately inserted, uncontrolled emotions.

The series doesn't explores the artificiality or the kitsch qualities of the details commented above through an aesthetically way (like we would see in a John Waters movie or Almodóvar's) that results in reconfiguring our point of view of experiencing and seeing the world in our real life experience. Making us question conservative values and ideas.

The thing is: all this beautiful people are not utilized as meanings to design intensities or plasticities of a subjectivity distortion responsible to shape the point of view that guide us through the series universe, or make an pallet of affections and gestures. Unfortunately, they are there just for the visual. Creating an aseptic experience.

Great visual and acting
henriquebrantes-3624831 July 2020
We can feel there is a unique Brazilian sauce on it. Besides the looks and acting that is great at most of the scenes, as a Brazilian i could see an amount of refereces to our culture: tipical historical buldings of small Brazilian towns, the wealthy livestoock market and the Power of its owners; Farm employers and employees generation-after-generation relationship. Those aspecs gives it unique shades to a story that is more about brazilian conservatism than about any supernatural desease.

Stunning photography and landscapes from the Brazilian countryside. Great music and the performances are better than some of popular teen series such as Elite or Riverdale.

Astonishing
bobsacamanoisking6 August 2020
Recently I've been watching lots of YA and teen contents, and I must say this is an astonishing show. In a way is really baroque but contemporary, allegorical but realistic. I'm very curious about how a second season for this is going to be, because now it looks like something in between. And I must say there's a lot of things that completely looks like thought for our times and this was written and shoot before corona virus. Kudos.

I literally watched the whole thing in one day, two sittings
kaf-3992821 July 2020
The only reason I gave this a 9/10 and not a 10/10 is because it feels a little bit like what I'd imagine a bad acid trip feels like. The camerawork is incredible, but hurts your eyes sometimes.

It's so so so good. The acting is good. I didn't cringe once.

It's LGBTQ+ representation is absolutely amazing.

And they have uniforms!!!! (No schools have uniforms ever in TV)

I was riveted and found the cinematography, script, acting to be top notch. The contrast between the simple farm life and the dazzling rave parties was mesmerizing. I hope they make another season.

Give it a go!
fhenrike25 July 2020
Not your regular teen TV series. I'm glad Netflix greenlighted this show. Loved the artistic visuals, soundtrack and performances. The little town and the countryside landscapes were a great background. The "bovine" arch was also an interesting parallel for the story, considering that Brazil is one of the largest producer of beef and there's this whole "farm lifestyle" at some states like Goias (where the series was shot).
