Tony Shalhoub, Jason Gray-Stanford, and Ted Levine in Monk (2002)

Goofs

Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa Claus

Monk

Edit

Continuity

After the fight between Monk and Santa Claus, we see Santa being arrested with his hands behind his back. As the camera pans to the left toward Stottlemeyer and Disher, Santa climbs into the squad car, bringing his hands in front of him - a clear indication that he's not handcuffed.
When the robbers pass the Star of Bethlehem to "Santa," his arm is in a sling, but for the climactic chase that follows, Santa has lost the sling.
In the closing scene, the ball on the end of the Santa hat changes position quite a bit from shot to shot.
At the end of the episode Natalie sits down with a glass of eggnog which her daughter samples. Natalie sets it on the floor and stands up when Monk enters the room. In panning shots after, the glass is nowhere to be seen.
The stuffed animals change position on the hood of the car between shots.

Factual errors

Santa Claus/Mr. Kenworthy and his buddies reschedule the robbery for 6 p.m. a day or two before Christmas because Monk interrupted them the first time. However, the robbery as well as the entire fight scene between Monk and Santa Claus takes place in broad daylight. The sunset for San Francisco, California in late December is around 5 p.m. So it would be almost, if not completely, dark at 6 p.m.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

As Monk tells the story of the shooting, Santa tried to hit him with a pipe. Even a partial examination of the roof by investigators would have found the pipe and quickly exonerated Monk, especially if it was found to have prints from Santa's glove.

First of all, glove's don't leave prints on anything. Second, just because there's a pipe laying on the ground it wouldn't prove Monk's version of the story.

Revealing mistakes

In the closing scene, after Monk has supposedly taken a bite out of the cookie, he pulls it out of his mouth completely intact.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Natalie gets pelted by an egg that was intended for Monk, Stottlemeyer yells, "Hey!" on the far left side of the screen. But his mouth moves a half a second too late.
Near the end when the kids are singing, audio does not match the expressions.

Errors in geography

When Monk and Natalie return to the rooftop, there are palm trees nearby and mountains in the distance. Neither can be seen from rooftops in San Francisco, but they can be seen from rooftops in Hollywood or other parts of Los Angeles.

Character error

Brandy mentions in her interview with Monk that she dug up the gun with her producer. She actually dug up the gun with her cameraman, Jerry.
