The protagonist is the actual father of director Jorge Thielen Armand and the film is based on Roque's true stories of living in the amazon jungle.
Nicole Brenez presided the jury that awarded the film in Biarritz 2020. Her poetic text was read on stage:
"He melted on us in the rumble of a love storm
it's a reciprocal gift and a Lazarean bet of immortality
the journey of a tiny silhouette, kneaded of anger whose rage resonates in immense indifferent landscapes
a documentary also about gold, spending, destruction, a deaf collective crisis
Not yet the Oscar promised by the protagonist to his son director but already a Grand Prix,
that goes to "La Fortaleza" by Jorge Thielen Armand."
First Venezuelan movie to have screened at the Official Competition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
The film was shot for 42 days on location in Venezuela during the protests and electrical blackouts of 2019.
