Two estranged brothers must learn to work together to claim their rightful share of an inheritance left solely to their eldest sibling.

Yogendra Yuvvraaj Singh lives a wealthy lifestyle along with 3 sons, Gyanesh - who is mentally unstable; Deven - a bully and slacker; and Danny - a Casanova. While he does tolerate Danny, he asks Deven to leave when the later assaults Gyanesh. Deven re-locates to Austria, meets with Anushka Banton, and both fall in love much to the chagrin of her dad, Dr. P.K. Banton, who wants her to wed, Daniel Mehta. When Yogendra suddenly passes away, Deven returns home to find that the household is run by his maternal uncle, Om Prakash, and his family. The family will soon find out through Advocate Sikander Mirza that the majority of the wealth and estate will be inherited by Gyanesh -leading to a conspiracy between both Deven and Danny - to try and befriend Gyanesh, and then compel him to share the estate equally between the three.—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)

Deven Yuvvraaj (Salman Khan) is a struggling singer who Dr. Banton (Boman Irani), his girlfriend Anushka's (Katrina Kaif) father, dislikes because he is not wealthy and is rather careless at times (always late to musical rehearsals, but Anushka always covers for him). Deven is passionately obsessive about Anushka. Anushka is a violin player at theatre performances in Prague, in the same group as Deven. Deven is a chorus singer but has the ambition to become the lead singer. Anushka is also clear that she will not marry Deven unless her father agrees to their wedding.

Banton won't agree to their wedding till Deven can prove he can give a comfortable life to Anushka. Deven is also revealed to have been disowned by his parents due to a fight he had with his older brother.

Banton invites Deven to a theme party but gives him dress instructions that make him look like a waiter and treats him as such during the party. Banton informs Deven that he has already confirmed Anushka's engagement to another man, which even Anushka is not aware of. Deven is arrested by the police when he reacts to the provocation by Banton. At the police station he has to give the name of his father, and the police informs him that his father (who lives in London and is one of the richest people in Britain) just passed away. Deven senses an opportunity to win over Anushka. He signs an agreement with Banton to become a billionaire in 40 days and in exchange he will get to marry Anushka. If he fails, he will leave Anushka alone.

To acquire this wealth, he has to go through an emotional roller coaster journey of joy and pain with his two estranged brothers, Gyanesh Yuvvraaj (Anil Kapoor) and Danny Yuvvraaj (Zayed Khan), who he meets after 12 years. Bala (Chimnay Patwardhan) is a young boy and Gyanesh's best friend. Shazia (Amrit Maghera) is Danny's girlfriend.

Gyanesh is Deven's stepbrother from his father's first marriage (and is mentally challenged) and Danny is Deven's real younger brother. As a child Deven fought with Gyanesh and his dad sent Deven to boarding school. Thats when his mom also died. When Deven came back from school, he again fought with Gyanesh. This time his dad asked him to leave the house and Deven asked for his share of the wealth based on the advice from his maternal uncle Mama Om Prakash (Aanjjan Srivastav). His dad kicked him out after hearing this.

On meeting them, he is shocked to see that his father has left everything to the mentally challenged Gyanesh (He has the genius syndrome). The remaining family members have received just a one-time grant of Rs 5 Crores each. Sikander Mirza (Mithun Chakraborty) is the family lawyer and reads the will for the total wealth estimated at Rs 15000 Crores. If Gyanesh dies, the money will go a charitable trust under Mamaji. Mamaji wants to manipulate things so that he and his family gets control over the entire family estate and wealth. Om Prakash has 2 sons Param and Dharam. Param's wife is a sexy Sukamna (Aparna Kumar). D'Mello Aunty (Sulabha Arya) is the house maid and Gyanesh's nanny.

Banton finds out about the developments and cannot stop laughing at Deven's misfortune. Banton publicly announces Anushka's engagement to Daniel (Bhupinder Singh), who is the son of Banton's close friend. Anushka is livid with Banton, but keeps quiet when Banton emotionally blackmails her by saying he will be humiliated if the truth is exposed.

Danny and Deven make an agreement to scam their brother out of his money. Deven proposes keeping 50% of the wealth, 49% for Danny and 1% for Gyanesh. Danny pressurizes Gyanesh to assert that their dad was mentally unstable when he prepared the will, and he was also in ICU for 3 months before his death. Danny's attempt to blackmail Gyanesh to make him lie in front of some lawyers fails and he assaults Gyanesh. Deven intervenes and plays the good guy and helps Gyanesh and takes him to Austria in an attempt to win him over.

There Anushka and Gyanesh get on very well and she is amazed by his singing talent. She lets him into her orchestra (she wouldn't even let Deven sing in that) which is due to perform in front of thousands of people. Deven gets jealous as Anushka and Gyanesh get on so well but soon learns to love his brother. Gyanesh is willing to go to jail when Deven has a small car accident and is about to be arrested. Gyanesh is even willing to back off Anushka's singing event when he learns that Deven loves Anushka. Sikander warns Deven not to manipulate Gyanesh's emotions for monetary gains.

Danny, now penniless and thrown out of all the luxurious clubs, loses Shazia. He meets up with Deven and Gyanesh and they all become loving brothers again and forget about the money. Om Prakash and his family decide to poison Gyanesh to get his money. They show Gyanesh a recording of Deven and Danny plotting to scam Gyanesh out of his money which breaks his heart. They then switch his inhaler with one containing poison and leave. Gyanesh, shocked and breathless uses his inhaler and fights with his brothers who realize that he knows about their plot.

Heartbroken Gyanesh performs on stage when Deven shows up and they do a duet with Deven singing about forgiveness. Onstage Gyanesh collapses and Deven takes him to hospital while Danny gets the police to arrest the family members who tried to poison Gyanesh.

At the hospital, Deven is informed that the only doctor available is Dr. Banton who refuses to help. Dr. Banton accuses Deven of only wanting Gyanesh to survive for the money so he can marry his daughter, but Deven breaks down and tells Dr. Banton that if he saves Gyanesh, he will not marry Anushka saying he just wants to keep his family together.

Dr. Banton is shocked by Deven's sense of responsibility and saves Gyanesh. He then allows Deven to marry Anushka now that he has become a changed man who cares about his family.
