Sean, a freshman in high school, lags behind his older sister, Chloe when walking back from school. They have yet to talk to each other or make eye contact. Sean and Chloe make it to the front steps of their home, and Chloe closes the door on her younger brother.
Chloe sighs at the sight of her mother and turns away toward her room to get started on her homework. Whereas Sean greets his mother with a smile and takes a cookie back to his room. The mom receives a text from her husband, saying, "Leaving office, see you around 5." She reads it and goes back to preparing dinner for the family.
The dad arrives back home. He eagerly greets his wife and continues towards his room to drop his things off and clean up. Shortly after, the mom sends out a text saying, "Dinner's ready." Quickly, everyone sees it, and they each get ready for dinner. While the rest of the family make their way towards the kitchen, the mom grabs the final plate.
The family is seated at the table, not a word is spoken. Chloe is clearly annoyed; meanwhile, the mom checks in by asking, "How was your day?" She quickly follows it up by letting the kids know that, "Dad got his promotion today!" Sean is proud, and follows up with "That's great!" and "Mom, this dinner is awesome." The mom hasn't heard from Chloe, but Chloe replies, "The school didn't text you?" The parents look surprised, and Chloe starts to explain.
Earlier that day, during a passing period, Sean says, "Hey," to Maria, and she is embarrassed. Sean is sent to the principal's office due to behavioral issues. The principal allows Sean to enter his office, and they discuss Sean talking to Maria. The principal lets Sean off with a warning, and Sean promises to never do it again.
The dad is intrigued, and asks, "Do we need to have a text about girls?" Sean immediately says no, and follows up with, "This is ridiculous! I only said HI!" Chloe, frustrated, replies with a snide remark but is quickly scolded by her parents. Sean tries pleading his case, "You and mom probably spoke to each other," but his argument is immediately shut down by his dad. Chloe is totally humiliated and thinks she can't go to school tomorrow since everyone knows that Sean is her brother. Sean apologizes, and the family finishes up dinner.
