Summaries

  • When a policeman comes to school to talk about drugs, Anna hides the LSD tabs. Looking for Gordon, the loan shark smashes up the flat. Anna heads out onto the streets alone.
  • Gordon's spent the night outside the flat, and when he returns he finds that his mother's destroyed his stash. He explains to Anna about how he's borrowed money from a loan shark, and that's how he managed to buy things for her. There's a shock for Julie and Robyn when they read the local paper - they learn a bypass is planning to built through the grounds of Grange Hill. In the school council meeting, it becomes apparent that the school is likely lose one of its playing fields. Gordon gives Anna a sheet of drugs to sell, little tabs to be put on the tongue. Gordon also has some money to retrieve from Andrew, at another school, but it's a trick, and Gordon is ambushed by a number of youths who overpower him and take the cash. Anna recognizes one of the lads, and so Gordon realizes he's been set up. When Anna returns home, she finds her mother has a badly bruised face. She is in the process of putting Gordon's stuff outside, hoping he will take the hint that he's not wanted. Anna still refuses to believe that Gordon would hurt their mother. Meanwhile, Gordon has tracked Andrew to a pub, and corners him in the loos. He is outnumbered, and leaves empty-handed. His dealer is getting impatient for the money he is owed, and then he finds his mother has put new locks on the front door. With threats of the police being called, Gordon walks away. The next day, Elvis fan Kevin tries to persuade his mum to get him a guitar. Anna encounters Gordon on the way to school. He persuades her to get a key cut for the new front door lock and also to push the drugs at school. Ironically, Mr. Robson has arranged a community police officer to talk to Year 8 about drugs. He's also expecting a councillor to talk about the playing fields. Unfortunately, Dennis mistakes the councillor for the police officer, and Julie thinks the plain-clothes police officer is the councillor. The councillor can't quite understand why he's expected to speak to the assembly, though Dennis' s comment that "I expect you must meet some real villains" is something he agrees upon. For his part, the police officer is bemused by Julie's questions about the road-widening scheme. While Anna struggles to sells Gordon's drugs, her brother has finally found Andrew out alone in back alley, but a passer-by intervenes. Gordon gets back inside the flat, and takes some money in an envelope, also various items, including Anna's bike. Back at school, the role reversal is rectified, and the police officer is telling Year 8 about drugs - he shows them the very same tabs which Anna has been touting. Perceiving her own stash of tabs to be a dangerous item to be seen with, Anna goes outside and hides them on a roof, securing them with a brick. After school, Anna's sitting at home alone when suddenly the front door is smashed in - it's Gordon's loan shark with one of his heavies. They starts breaking the china threateningly, and when there's nothing of value to be had, start smashing everything up. Eventually, when it becomes apparent that Gordon's left for good, they leave. Almost immediately there's another visitor, Eliot, Gordon's drug supplier, who's not unsympathetic to Anna, and her broken front door. He suggests she finds somewhere else to stay. Anna packs her bag and her face wet with tears, heads off into the night...—Geffers
