- Dan Mathews and Sergeant Williams race to find a sailor who was exposed to spinal meningitis while saving the life of an infant.
- While eloping, Seaman First Class Jim Newman and Betty Jane Martin stop at Hoffman's Service Station and find an emergency involving a choking infant. Jim revives the baby and the two drive off without giving their names. Moments later, Dr. Kincaid arrives with Dan Mathews and determines that the baby has a dangerous and highly contagious form of spinal meningitis. He advises that Jim and Betty Jane must be found and inoculated within hours to prevent their own possible deaths and a likely epidemic. Without names, Dan and Sergeant Williams face long odds, but they are helped by a local store owner and the justice of the peace that married the couple. When the two are finally located, they decide to avoid confrontation with Homer Martin (Betty Jane's father) and flee. Dan is forced to chase them down at high speed on treacherous dirt roads.—Sam Spear
- With a ten-day leave, sailor Jimmy Newman has run off with his girlfriend Betty Jane Martin to elope. They are doing so as Betty Jane's widowed father, Homer Martin, does not approve, Betty Jane aware that it isn't Jimmy per se, but rather the thought of being alone in the world. En route to the Justice of the Peace and the subsequent honeymoon at a secluded cabin in the mountains, Jimmy and Betty Jane stop off at a highway service station for gas to discover the owner's wife Mrs. Hoffman in a panic, her husband who has gone for the doctor as their baby is in extreme medical distress. Jimmy is able to save the choking baby by breathing into its mouth before they go on their way. When Dr. Kincaid arrives accompanied by Dan who is able to provide the "lights and siren" assistance in getting him there sooner, he discovers that Jimmy, in turn, has caused another potentially more deadly issue in having transmitted highly contagious bacterial meningitis to the baby, Jimmy and Betty Jane, in addition to the number of people with who they would have been in contact, likely dead in a matter of hours if they are not found and inoculated. Dan and the highway patrol are in a race to find the pair, which is made all the more difficult in Jimmy and Betty Jane only previously telling those in a need to know basis where they were going, and who probably do not want to be found in light of Mr. Martin.—Huggo
