The ship shown in the harbor named African Endeavor began her life as the SS Debrasil, a cargo-passenger liner built for the Delta Line's New Orleans to South American service in 1940. During World War 2 she was requisitioned, turned in to a troop transport and renamed USS George F. Elliott (AP-105) in 1943. She participated in the invasions of the Marianas and the Philippines in 1944-45. In 1948 she was sold to the Farrell Lines and renamed as seen here for cargo and passenger service between New York and South Africa. Passengers were accommodated in 82 cabins, all first class. She was retired in 1960, laid up in reserve, and finally scrapped in 1972.
