We keep it in the family.
Bread was one of the must watch shows of my youth, as a family we always used to sit down to watch it, I don't remember these early years, so I'm watching them afresh.
This first episode introduces the family, what they're about and what they're up to. A family run by the Catholic matriarch Nelly Boswell.
They're at each other, but all support one another in a family unit. This first part is funny, Joey is particularly funny and charming, I enjoyed his scenes with The DHSS clerk.
It got me to Google where Gateacre was, not somewhere I got to visit in Liverpool, stunning place.
It's a reflection of real life for many in the early 1980's, Carla Lane really did hit on something with Bread.
A fine start. 8/10
