- The team searches for the identity and killer of a young Latina who was dropped at a hospital by a white supremacist, and Ham spins out of control.
- Grace investigates the murder of a young Hispanic woman who was apparently the victim of a hate crime. But her investigation takes a toll on Ham who continues to slide into degradation and debauchery, who is still unable to get over the loss of his brother. Meanwhile, Rhetta becomes determined to win a contest for charity that Butch has put together to help out his younger sister, Nelle.—Anonymous
- At the bar, Grace prepares blind taste test shots for Butch's mentally handicapped sister, Rhetta serves a table as part of a fundraiser. Ham is off in a corner, smoking and sulking, still having a hard time after his brother's death. Grace plays "Tubthumping" on the juke box and Grace and Butch dance on the bar. Ham joins them and starts stripping - all the way down. Back at Grace's house, they're climbing into bed but he won't wait to put a condom on. She asks if he wants to go "bare back." And then they do - Lady Godiva-style, naked horseback riding in the night.
Back at her house, Ham sleeps while Grace feeds her dog and chats with Earl about what it's like to sleep. Earl is worried about Ham. He's in love with Grace and grieving for his brother. Earl tells Grace it's going to get worse.
At the office the next morning, Grace is telling fundraiser stories. Ham looks like hell. They get a murder call to the hospital. A man dropped her off and left.
Henry prepares the body for autopsy. All they have are her clothes and the nametag Rosie.
Butch looks at the hospital security tape of the man dropping her off. Grace tries to track down the Aryan tattoo someone saw on the man. Rhetta goes over the victim's belongings. Ham smokes then goes to observe the autopsy.
Grace has ID'd the drop-off man, Smash, a skinhead. They found a business card on Rosie. She was raped.
Capt. Perry asks Grace if Ham's OK. She tells Grace IA is looking into Ham. He got pulled over the other night and took a swing at the cop, an ex-Marine.
Henry tells Grace that Rosie was beaten to death. He tells her Ham has never observed an autopsy before. He wanted to hold the girl's heart in his hands, so Henry let him.
Ham snaps at Grace when she tells him the chief didn't appreciate his naked bar dancing.
Grace and Ham go visit the skinheads. She greets them with an "hola, muchachos." They say they're looking for Smash. Grace spies the tattoo on one man's neck. He runs. Ham tackles him and punches him. He wants to keep punching him, but Grace stops him.
Grace checks out the nearby Dumpster.
They take Smash back to the station. He answers every question with "screw you." Ham looks dangerously close to punching him.
Butch talks to the fellow skinheads at the garage. They deny seeing her. The crime scene people say the heavy rain the night before ruined evidence at the Dumpster.
At the station, Perry gets flowers and Butch tells her that Rosie works for the state rep. sponsoring a tough anti-immigration bill. The outfit Rosie was wearing matches what the help wore at the fundraiser.
The reps chief of staff, Aaron, shows up. He IDs Rosie and gives them her documentation. Perry wants a copy of the guest list and the name of her aunt who got her the job. He asks for a subpoena. They mention how unpleasant it could be for the state rep to find out he violated his own law.
Grace and Rhetta try to figure out how to cheer Ham up. Rhetta says she's determined to win the fundraiser. Grace tells her about another of Ham's Afghanistan dreams. Rhetta reports data shows the rape was by just one person and Rosie had strawberry margarita on her apron. As Grace is telling this to Perry, they hear Ham yelling. Butch is pulling him off the Aryan suspect and Ham is threatening to kill him. Perry kicks Ham out for the day. He sits down angrily at his desk. Grace tries to talk to him, says she'll come over and he shouts no and says he'll see her tomorrow.
He goes to the bar and does shots. Earl sidles up to Ham and tries to make pleasant conversation. Earl asks him if they've met before. He pats Ham on the back and Ham hauls back and punches him. Earl hits the floor.
Earl drops by Grace's. Her dog is feeling sick. Earl tells her Ham hit him. He has a shiner. Earl tells Grace she has to restore Ham's faith in God.
The next day, Perry tells Ham he needs to take him off. He apologizes and begs her not to bench him.
Ham and Grace smoke outside. He says he doesn't trust Perry. He yells about everything. Grace says she visited the caterer that morning. She found someone who said Rosie was excited that night because she got a business card from someone at the party and someone else who offered her a ride home.
Rhetta comes in in costume and tries to raise money. Ham laughs with everyone. Rhetta tells Grace that the skinhead's DNA wasn't a match for the rape kit. Suddenly, Ham falls to the floor, clutching his hand. Butch talks to his sister, who's worried about Ham.
Butch's mother the politician stops by to get her daughter. She asks Butch if he wants her to make a few calls about their case -- she already has. She has a list of everyone at the party. She suggests three people who might rape and kill a woman, including the chief of staff. Mom and Perry commiserate over Ham's Longhorn allegiance.
Grace takes Ham home. She notices his puppy is missing, there's a shotgun next to his bed and liquor bottles everywhere. (The puppy is with his ex.) He had a panic attack.
Ham starts crying and asks Grace why she didn't go to his brother's funeral. She says because he asked her not to. She says she should have been there. He tells her to leave, but she refuses. He finally passes out from the pills the hospital gave him. She starts taking all the bullets out of all Ham's many guns. His brother Nick, who hates Grace, shows up. She explains what's going on as she leaves for work.
At the station, Grace talks to Smash trying to figure out what happened. She thinks he did the right thing, even though the victim was Latina. Grace shows Smash his skinhead pal in the observation room and threatens to tell his pals he helped a minority. He admits he found Rosie and took her to the hospital.
Butch and Perry talk to Rosie's aunt, who is reluctant to talk at first. They tell her it will stay confidential. She says she came down to the party at midnight and heard Rosie flirting and saying she met someone who was going to give her a ride in a BMW.
They interview the chief of staff again, who denies doing anything and offers up a lover as an alibi. Perry checks guests with BMWs: the chief of staff and Hank DeFranco, a lobbyist. Grace already knows his name, his business card was in Rosie's wallet. Butch brings DeFranco in, cuffed. Grace insults him and spits in his face. He spits back. She wipes her face with a handkerchief, "and now we've got your DNA."
Back at the bar, in red fishnets, yellow heels, yellow lingerie and feathers in her hair, Rhetta does a sexy chicken dance to try to win the fundraiser. Butch's sister, the unofficial judge, gives her the thumbs up.
Back at Ham's place, he's woken up after 12 hours of sleep and is looking for his guns. He says he wouldn't have hurt himself. He tells her he's going to take a few days off and when he comes back he wants a new partner for a while, to clear his head. Grace doesn't understand. She tells him he's her partner and she loves him.
Graces goes horseback riding (clothed this time) to a full moon.
