- While Ham deals with his loss, the team tries to lure the father of a burn victim to the hospital. Elsewhere, Bobby is pulled for a special assignment.
- Grace watches Ham in the bar. He's falling down drunk. Bobby's wife complains he hasn't been acting right. Ham is still dealing with his brother's death.
He tells Grace he loves her. "I love you, too, partner," is the best she can manage. He literally falls down, drunk.
Butch gets Ham home. He falls down yet again. Ham tells Butch to stay away from Grace. "Got it," Butch says. He puts Ham in bed and leaves. Ham wakes up and cries, he calls someone.
Ham in bed with a woman in the morning. Grace calls. She's not lying next to him. It's Darlene, his ex.
Grace has coffee with Earl. She asks him if he's ever showered. "You just want to see me nekkid," he says. But takes her up on it. She digs through his clothes. He's a boxer's man, er, angel. She takes off her bathrobe to join him, but the door's locked. She tries to get a peek with a mirror, to no avail. Wily angel.
Grace checks out the scene of a murder they were called to. There's a cute puppy. Ham shows up. The scene is a mess. Clothes everywhere. Blood spattered on the walls.
Henry says it happened three or four hours ago. Bobby says her kid is missing, didn't show up at school.
Grace goes up to the kid's room. Ham says the victim liked to have "company."
There's blood on the kid's bed. Ham's phone rings. He doesn't answer. Bobby says Perry wants him at the office. He doesn't know what for. He senses something weird between Grace and Ham.
Rhetta analyzes the scene. She found a bag of prescription pills, covered in blood. Grace touches a talking picture frame in the victim's suitcase. She was packed to be gone a long time.
Grace runs out to talk to Ham. He says he'll meet her at the office. She drives off. Ham talks to a neighbor. Ham bums a cigarette. He tells Ham to talk to the dad. He saw his car in the driveway. His finger is bandaged. He says he was chopping a carrot.
Ham gets in the car, comforting the puppy. He breaks down crying.
Grace talks to the sister. She says Scott Fielding, the victim's ex, threatened to kill Sheralene and she thinks he followed through with it. Grace wants to find the kid, Jack. The sister says Scott said he'd make it so she could never see Jack again. Jack has a cell phone. Grace calls it and gets voice mail, with Scott's voice on it, too.
Butch goes to see Perry. Bobby's gone undercover. Perry says it could be for a couple of months. She tells him to forget Bobby exists.
Ham comes to work. There's a rose on his desk.
Butch tells Ham about Bobby. Butch calls Bobby's wife.
Ham recaps all the places Jack and Scott have been seen. All over. The only pills taken were sleeping pills.
Ham tells Grace about Bobby.
The kid at the scene was busted for fake prescriptions, Ham says. His cell phone rings again. He ignores it again.
Sheralene, the victim, bought three tickets to Orlando for that morning. Her, Jack and the puppy.
Butch has cell phone video of Scott getting gas in a can, with Jack in the car.
Their watches all go off at noon. An old custom to remember the dead, for Ham's brother.
Perry walks in and tells them a car was found, engulfed in flames, a small boy inside.
Grace covers up to go visit Jack in the burn unit. Or what's left of him. He's all gauze. Third degree burns over 70 percent of his body. He's five years old and unconscious. He might not live.
The nurse tells Grace he hasn't had any visitors. She says whoever did this is also burned. She shows Grace the fingerprints burned into Jack's head. He was held down.
Ham and Perry watch a news report, in which Dr. Hanadarko asks Scott to come forward. His son needs and misses him, she says.
Ham calls the neighbor back in. Ham doesn't think he's being honest. Because he's not.
Butch, Ham and Rhetta check out the car. Ham found someone who saw Scott buying gauze. They find sleeping pills in the car. They think Scott drugged his son before burning him. Turns out the neighbor was lying because he was sleeping with Sheralene.
Ham and Rhetta talk. He thanks her for going to the funeral, says Grace couldn't go because Darlene was there.
At the hospital, Scott calls for his son. Grace talks to him, reassuring him the police aren't there. He hangs up. The nurse says if Jack wakes up, he'll want to see his dad.
Grace waits at the hospital with Sheralene's sister. The sister leaves for coffee. Earl and Grace watch over the boy. "I hate him, Earl," she says. "Jack's father?" Earl replies. "Yours, too."
Butch waits in a dark car. Perry calls. He doesn't answer. Bobby gets in, looking disheveled. He gives Butch his wedding ring to give to his wife. He also has a stack of letters to be mailed to his kids weekly. Butch promises to look after his family.
At the station, Perry wants to know why Butch didn't answer his phone. She knows why. She tells him to get to the hospital. Jack is waking up.
Grace distracts Jack while the doctor takes his breathing tube out. He wants to know where his mommy and daddy are.
Grace sits in the stairwell, holding her hand to the fire of her lighter. Healthy coping mechanism.
Earl visits Jack. He tells him his mom is fine. He answers Jack's questions without them being asked. Earl makes him a promise. He delicately scratches Jack's itch.
Ham and Butch, undercover, wait for Scott at the hospital. He shows up and they arrest him. He screams for his son as they drag him off.
At the station, they roughly handcuff Scott's burned hands. He wants to see his son. Grace tells him their proof are his burned hands.
Butch comes in and whispers to Grace that Jack is probably going to die soon and is asking for his dad.
They take Scott to see his son. He tells him he loves him. Grace says his mom will be there as soon as she can. That's enough. They drag him off. Grace takes him to the stairwell, alone. She throws him down the stairs. He thinks his ankle is broken. Grace steps on it to make sure.
Grace tells Scott that she told Jack everything his dad did. She says his son hates him. He confesses.
Grace pants heavily into a walkie talkie, saying an officer needs help. Butch and Ham hustle Scott away.
Ham goes home to his tiny puppy. His cell rings again. He answers. It's Darlene. He says he has someone he wants her to meet.
At the bar, Butch gives Bobby's wife his ring.
At home in bed, Grace stares at the ceiling. Earl lies next to her, staring. She reaches for his hand and holds it.
