- Robert Cohen (Bertie Higgins) and Allan Shaw (J.D. Rudometkin) decide to add some excitement to their lives by taking up Harley riding. Robert and Allan are two upstanding suburbanite lawyers, husbands caught in the grip of boring normalcy: the wife, the house, the cars, the debt. A quiet desperation that often finds its own unique outlet in the form of the motorcycle; an ultimate expression of freedom now consigned to weekend outings straddled by flocks of rich urban bikers living out 'Easy Rider' fantasies.
But Robert and Allan's biker fantasies crash headlong into the brutal realities of biker life when they find themselves in the hands of two psychopaths on wheels, Ray (Robert Thorne) and Billy (Jay Wisell). Ray and Billy are junkies and high on drugs. They have recently assaulted a man in his trailer home and sexually assaulted his wife in front of him. Ray and Billy sell stolen bikes to Amarillo Slim (D.C. Douglas), the same dealer who was talking to Robert and Allan to sell them their bikes. Amarillo refuses to buy the latest 2 bikes from Ray and Billy as the previous bikes offloaded by them came up stolen when he ran their plates.
Ray and Billy were in the bar, when Robert and Allan walked in. Ray and Billy talk to the duo and sell them the bikes for $20,000, which is a lot lower than what they would have paid at the dealership with Amarillo. Later that night, Ray and Billy assault Amarillo and tie him behind Billy's bike and drag him for 2 miles on the desert road as punishment for refusing their bikes.
Robert and Allan plan to do the Poker Run (A poker run in which participants, usually using motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, horses, on foot or other means of transportation, must visit five to seven checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run) and their wives Susan and Cheri decide to join them.
In the middle of a Poker Run, a desert-bike rally between Victorville and Vegas (with 5 pub stops along the way), Robert and Allan run into Billy at their first stop. Cheri is attracted to Ray. Ray and Billy convince Allan and Robert to abandon route 66 and take a different, more adventurous path to Mexico. The 6 folks retire in a campsite at night after getting drunk. But Cheri is spooked by Ray and insists that they check into a motel a little way down the road. Turns out it is the same motel which Ray and Billy have used in several of their crime sprees before. The motel caretaker (Skip Pipo), gives them the keys to Robert and Allan's rooms. A teenager Grace (Carlie Nettles) is travelling with her mother (Suzanne Gutierrez), who run into Billy at a convenience store. Billy assaults the mother in the rest room and abducts Grace.
Cheri goes to have sex with Ray, when Allan was too tired to have sex with her. Meanwhile, Susan ventures into Billy's room and finds Grace bound and gagged. Ray and Billy abduct Robert and Allan's wives Susan (Debra Hopkins) and Cheri (Jasmine Waltz). They leave the two men with an ultimatum of death if they ever hope to see the women alive again. The next morning Robert and Allan find Grace bound and gagged in Billy's bathroom.
They find a note, instructing them to a specific Sierra Inn on the highway. There they meet an old man who hands them another note, instructing them to kill him. To encourage them, another man hands them a package which had Cheri's cut finger in it. Allan goes in and shoots the old man in the head, with the gun he had received with the original note at the motel.
They then find instructions to their next location and task (which is to cut off a man's hand). Meanwhile Susan needs to defecate, and Ray takes help from a vacationing Bovine family in a camper. The family includes Chuck (Chuck Spitler), Mother (Cathy Deobler) and Chuck Jr (Lucas Wilcox). Later at night, Ray and Billy lock up Cheri and Susan in cages hidden inside a mountain cave. Ray then goes to the Sierra Inn and finds the old man dead.
The note takes Allan and Robert to Roy the Meth cook (Ryan Caldwell) and his trailer park. Ray wanted to punish Roy (his own brother) for stealing from him. Allan finds a video message from Ray in the trailer, with Cheri as his hostage. Allan proceeds to cut of Roy's hand, as instructed. They find the next clue in the microwave oven.
Meanwhile Billy has imprisoned Susan with Grace inside Grace's mother moving van in the middle of the desert. Grace's mother's dead body is also in the van with them. Ray is angry with Billy as Ray explicitly told Billy to leave the women alone.
At a diner, Robert approaches a sheriff Harold Spitts (Kurt Sinclair) to lodge a complaint about Ray and Billy. Harold takes Robert with him to the station to record the complaint. Turns out the Sheriff was working for Ray and delivers Robert to him. Ray kills Harold, as Harold was beginning to complain too much about Ray's criminal activities in his jurisdiction. Meanwhile, the waitress Tammy (Melanie Wilson) hands over the 4th clue to Allan, which points him to the Four Aces Motel. Allan finds the next location in a cabin at the motel.
Later at night, Billy brings water for Grace and Susan and attempts to sexually assault Susan. Grace picks up Billy's gun and shoots him dead. Ray kills Robert for violating the rules, but Allan completes the task and reaches Cheri. Ray informs Allan that Cheri cheated on him and that she is not worth fighting for. But Allan pulls a gun on Ray and shoots him dead.
Allan buries Robert and rides away alone. Grace and Susan are picked up by the Bovine family, who wanted Grace as a prize for Chuck Jr.
