- Ricky is miffed when Kate joins his ski trip with Edward, and starts to worry that he'll increasingly be ignored as their relationship develops.
- As Ricky is packing for a ski trip, Derek enters. Derek says he envies Ricky going with his dad on a trip. Ricky says that Kate's joining them. Derek warns Ricky that with Kate there, Edward's going to focus all his attention on her. Somewhat upset, Ricky denies that his dad will ignore him.
After Derek leaves, Ricky asks Edward what Kate will be doing, and his dad says she'll be up there skiing with them. Crestfallen, Ricky says he's worried that Kate will feel left out. That has the opposite effect of what Ricky wants, as Edward says he'll make sure to give Kate extra attention so she feels included. Kate enters, visibly upset because her cat broke her nose. Kate says she took her cat to the vet, so she can't go on the trip. Ricky is delighted that Kate can't go, but Edward suggests canceling the trip. Kate tells Edward and Ricky to go ahead anyway.
Edward and Ricky go to the resort, where they find a fireplace and a tiny kitchen. They hit the slopes, but when they return, they discover that the fireplace has been lit and dinner has been set on the table. Kate then comes out, saying the operation to fix her cat's nose was a success, so she didn't need to stay at the clinic and came up to the cabin. Edward is thrilled to see Kate, but Ricky is disappointed because he was hoping to spend some time with his dad. Edward and Kate share a romantic dinner, while Ricky feels left out.
After dinner, Edward climbs into bed, exhausted. Ricky tries to talk to him, but Edward falls asleep before Ricky can explain how he feels about Kate being at the cabin. Ricky decides to leave so his dad and Kate can enjoy some alone time together. He leaves a note on the lamp, then puts on his cold weather gear and exits.
The next morning, when Edward wakes up, he finds and reads the note. He calls Kate into the room. Kate says that it's been snowing all night. Edward has Kate call the house and the ski patrol, and Edward heads outside, dressed only in his pajamas. When he can't find Ricky, he returns, half-frozen. Kate says she called the house, but Ricky wasn't there. She then called the ski patrol, only to find out that they were missing. They decide to go to the main lodge and organize their own search party. When they return, Edward, shivering badly as he only went out in his pajamas with a ski jacket, blames himself for ignoring Ricky. He takes out his frustrations on Kate, then admits he's scared because Ricky is gone. Kate says he'll get Ricky back safe, and Edward says that if he does, he'll never, ever ignore his son again.
Just then, Ricky enters, saying the ski patrol is looking for a lost kid. Edward tells Ricky that the ski patrol is looking for him. Confused, Ricky says he isn't lost, but Edward mentions the note. Ricky explains that he started to leave, but because it was snowing so badly, he slept in the van. When he woke up, he saw that Edward and Kate weren't there, so he left them another note saying he was in the main lodge playing video games. Edward asks what second note. Ricky says he left it on the couch. Edward says there's no note on the couch, and Ricky finds the note on his dad's backside.
Ricky apologizes to Edward and Kate, saying he shouldn't have been jealous of them and was sorry he caused so much trouble. Edward apologizes back, saying he shouldn't have made Ricky feel unwanted and asks his son to let him know if he ever feels left out. As they hug, Ricky tells his dad he now knows what it's like to hug a popsicle.
