Not sure what to make of Viking Warrior Women. Its tone seems to treat the discovery of a possible grave of a viking women, who may have been a fighter, as somehow a revelation?
Its no secret that viking women fought alongside men, as did women in the Red Army during WWII. The wives of Japanese Samurai who fell to an intruding Samurai at home, were expected to take up arms in a last ditch to defend the property and its occupants. Just a few examples.
I wonder too why any of these women would need to identify as men? It seems to suggest male dominated societies were inherently unequal as they were in ancient Rome. That was not true of much of the ancient world, Celtic society offers some excellent examples of equality, in the context of what was still a male driven culture.
I like historical doco's but I really wish more of them were more on target with the facts and left the speculation at the door.
On the upside this is an interesting revisit of viking times, with something of a look one female role in society. Which, given how violent times were back then, could see women involved in warfare, which I would think is not really all that surprising.
6/10.
