Biassed against Peterson
vineethsk24 February 2021
All through the documentary, director brought people talking against him but not for him.

The impact and changes he made on millions is only superficially touched.

Film is subtly messaging that he is wrong to have made his stand which is sad. It had completely ignored the mass intellectual self deprecating attacks on Jordan by media, journalists, activists and critiques.

I feel like the documenter hated Jordan and wanted to show what he/she/them feels like instead of presenting an unbiassed picture

"I figured out how to monetize social justice warriors."
classicsoncall12 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's only recently that I even became aware of Jordan Peterson, and then because of the controversy regarding his defense of free speech and stance against political correctness. Going deeper, his overriding message appears to be that one should live life as an individual and not succumb to ideology or group think. Those are worthy goals, and like so many outspoken celebrities, the message he tries to convey will be altered and reworded by adversaries in such a way as to appear controlling and hostile to opposing ideas. The picture itself attempts to offer a balance by presenting former associates of Dr. Peterson who at one time were supporters, but have taken on a different view of him because of the polarization that has ensued regarding his writings and You tube postings. Because so many followers of Peterson extol the help he's provided by virtue of his work and public appearances, one would have to concede that he's done some good in helping people find their own way. That's probably not enough to appease anyone hell bent with an opposing point of view, which is why the man will probably remain a controversial figure.

On Guard For Thee. Strong and Free
ghsmithmail1 October 2019
This film humanizes perhaps the biggest brain, deepest thinker, and bravest man on the planet today. Unlike most Canadians, this gruff Canadian won't be the first to say "i'm sorry".. but just wait for his story to unfold. And underneath it all... this is a love story of humanity, truth, and authenticity. =Canada.

He is on guard for thee, so we can individually be Strong and Free.

Fascinating

What a fascinating person. Jordan Peterson is like a fictional character. He feels things so intensely that he trembles.

Is he doing good or bad? The documentary is sympathetic but balanced and critics get plenty of time to speak. The movie takes them seriously and some of the accusations stick.

For my money, it isn't possible to know if you're doing good or doing bad. We are all acting into uncertainty. Narratives are penciled in after the fact. My hope is that Peterson stays away from the nasty, partisan point-scoring.

Very balanced and good starter

This film depicts the events surrounding Jordan Peterson's ascent in an impartial and honest way. If you are familiar with Peterson's works you'll feel like there is not enough of "his message" is shown, but if you're not, this documentary might make you curious. I can only envy people who haven't yet discovered Dr. Peterson for themselves. I'd suggest to listen to his podcasts from episode 1, and by the time you're past biblical series you'll be in constant awe!

Well, it gave me the answers I was seeking.
magnesium2326 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this recently. It was a good documentary in its unbiasedness. That said, I was kind of disappointed at how unremarkable Jordan b Peterson is, it turns out.

There are some things that Jordan b Peterson says that I agree with and admire. Like, for example, his pleading with people be their own person as opposed to mindlessly adhering to the extreme rhetoric of whatever political party you find yourself under the spell of.

But it turns out he was only briefly famous because of some assertion regarding free speech he made one day which just so happened to toss trans people under the bus in the example he was using, so he became very divisive and all of the anti-trans people, under their usual guise of promoting free speech, hurried to his side.

And then it seemed like he didn't quite know how to handle that Fame. But it did I guess bring some attention to some of the good points he has, unfortunately his Fame also gave a lot of voice and power to White supremacists and transphobic individuals, which is something he can also be seen struggling to wrap his mind around.

And, by the way, my thoughts on the inciting incident that kicked off his brief Fame is this: his worries about how misgendering a trans person being made to be classified as a hate crime, that if that happened would ultimately result in fascism thriving in Canada, is a garden variety slippery slope fallacy.

And the fact that he capped off his argument by really just complaining intensely that he will never never use a person's desired pronouns for any reason, I think was detrimental to his assertion that his objections were solely regarding free speech.

Excellent film. captures both sides well
theW4lrus15 October 2019
Movie does a great job of showing the reasons people have for and against Petersons speeches and refrains from taking any side. The clips used from his past interviews made me want to go watch them all on youtube. Wish this film was being shown in more theatres!

I have mixed feelings about this documentary.
crons794 March 2021
I really like Jordan Peterson, his YouTube videos, and his interviews. I like that the documentary shows where he came from, his journey, and some behind the scene things that I did not know. I even like that it showed the side of the transgender people, and thought it was a fair telling of both side of the story.

One thing I didn't like was that it showed at one point a comparison between Peterson and Hitler. It was an interesting idea, and makes you think about how any person who becomes famous could fall to the temptation of thinking they are a god and that they have unlimited power, but I think it was unfair to apply it directly to Jordan Peterson, and have never thought of him that way.

I am not sure who the intended audience is either. I kind of liked it because I already know how great his teachings can help people, but I wouldn't want someone who doesn't know anything about him to watch it, because they might get the wrong idea.

It was well shot, and kind of fair in it's telling, but I walked away a little confused, and had mixed feelings. I also wanted more from it. Overall, decent.

Authentic take on a remarkable, flawed human being
smyrlrobin3 November 2019
Very different to any Peterson related content I've watched before (and Ive watched alooooot). It made me question my own assumptions about JBP - was kinda like I got to see more of Jordan Peterson the struggling, flawed human being who doesnt know whats going on but is trying his best, as opposed to seeing 'my hero' Jordan Peterson. And it was v interesting to hear from his family/friends (particularly Tammy). I also got emotional in parts. Felt like a very honest, authentic, even-handed take on a remarkable man

I wish he would run for prime minister
That_1_guy25 October 2022
I've listened a few of Jordan Peterson's podcasts and watched some of his miniseries like Dragons Monsters and Men and his biblical series was really quite an interesting and practical take on the bible. But he has a good point, the political right has no voice anymore.

For democracy to work there has to be open decision between the left and right and it really does feel like the left is just bullying the right to conform to they're ideals.

Jordan Peterson is one of the only voices out there trying to bridge the gap and make peace, so both sides can live harmoniously again.

Canada needs a real leader.

Jordan Peterson Fails The Moment
rabloomq10 June 2023
This film has the pretense of not presenting an opinion on its subject. But by doing so requires the viewer to judge the film based on what's presented. And what is presented is disturbing. Jordan states that he wants to stay out of politics, but then goes on to fully embrace the right wing, and to refrain from criticizing the most authoritarian western leader in modern history. An intelligent man who has obviously sold out because he apparently does attention more than his principles. This is very disappointing because he has interesting and thoughtful insights regarding society, psychology and sociology. He could rise to the moment but instead has failed epically and apparently for the worst motivations. Given his intelligence and his gifts this is very disappointing . And apparently just to satisfy his own ego.

Character-Driven Film - Not Issue-Based
graciwest15 October 2019
You don't have to like Jordan Peterson to appreciate this film. This is a look into the life and logic of a man who has experienced rapid-onset fame for drawing an unpopular line in the sand.

If a person hasn't already decided what they think about Jordan Peterson they will ask you this question, "Is he good or bad? Dangerous or benevolent?" Though this film doesn't try to answer that question, I believe that it does.

It answers as he would--Yes.

weak documentary
toku_kkai22 May 2020
I am a very big fan of Jordan Peterson and I wanted to like this documentary or at least make me think. It has nothing new to offer, just go watch one if his interviews, or one of his lectures and it's time better spent. It really has nothing controversial or anything his fans or haters don't already know so to me it was a waste of time.

Great Documentary!
eiriklokke8 November 2019
The documentary trails Peterson's astonishing rise to fame by highlighting new material together with old clips - in ways that are enlightening. It is original and thought provoking". The movie does not vilify Professor Peterson, nor does it portray him as a hero. The documentary is a nuanced portray of Jordan Peterson, where his antagonists put forward harsh critic. It provides a more profound look at the debates surrounding identity-politics and Petersons rise to fame. I highly recommend the movie!

Well done documentary
lonewolfkg8 March 2020
I liked the movie as it showed a balanced picture of the man and the issues going on today in our current polarizing culture. What I find appalling is that allows the movie to show Hitler and Trump as being stars in the show, which is absolutely ridiculous and misleading.

Nuanced, measured, and revealing
outerskillz24 July 2020
This documentary is quite a bit like Jordan Peterson himself; it is nuanced, insightful, and at its most flawed moments, repetitive. Entering into Peterson's private and personal world reveals a gruffness and vulnerability that is endearing. The film doesn't pick sides, but presents individual opinions, objections, and plaudits, and in doing so deftly captures the ethos of the Canadian professor.

Masterful work of journalistic integrity; an unbiased perspective
samcochran14 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film establishes a narrative of truth superimposed over the contemptuous issues and Jordan Peterson's rise as a cultural icon. The filmmakers found key elements of Peterson's rise as an intellectual thinker and remained dedicated to showing the audience the complexity of Jordan Peterson as a human being. Those for and against Peterson are given a reasonable platform to express their views without taking things out of context. It would be surprising for a rational individual to walk away from this documentary not having their opinions on Peterson fundamentally altered and even his most divisive critics should understand Peterson as a compassionate individual with a genuine desire to enhance society at the level of the individual. His net positive impact on society is remarkable, but that is not say he is a man without fault. The documentary shows you that even the good doctor would admit this, but his humility captures you in a warm way.

Anything with Jordan Peterson is a good thing...
JustUs200131 October 2021
However constantly being bombarded with this minute minority with severe mental illnesses as though they are in the majority or even common is ridiculous! This documentary seems to show the ludicrousness of the the lefts support of mentally ill people even to the point where they actually support their delusions! Complete insanity.

Compelling look at a modern hero, and the flaws of his critics...
RodMartinJr22 March 2021
Jordan Peterson is an inspirational person who has the humility, yet confidence to make a positive difference in the world. Humility to learn and to listen attentively, but confidence in certain core principles which transcend opinion.

An example of the profound disconnect with reality comes from a former friend, Bernard Schiff, who refused to discuss with Mr. Peterson his disagreements, because Mr. Schiff assumed things that were not in evidence. He had a "reality" about Peterson which is not apparent in Peterson's behavior or hisactions. Schiff conflated disagreement with legislated speech with disagreement with cordial agreement on preferred pronouns. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING!!! Yet the activists make it all about the latter, when the former is the real issue.

If the activists and Schiff would wake up from their dream of fake conflict, they would see that Peterson is quite willing to use preferred pronouns if an individual requests their use, but is against the tyranny of governments mandaging speech. I'm sure Schiff would chafe under the yoke of compelled speech if the government declared that he needed to use language with which he was uncomfortable.

Bernie could have asked, "what are you really after?" But he didn't. He assumed, incorrectly, and then refused to dig more deeply.

"So," said Bernard Schiff, "it is true that he called me a number of times since then, many times, and I did not return the calls because he was on a roll. I was watching what he was doing. I thought he was getting nastier, angeier, and I saw that there was no reason to talk because I knew -- because I knew there was no access to Jordan except to say, 'Jordan, you're doing a great thing and I believe what you're doing.'"

Disingenuous! He had multiple opportunities for access, to ask questions to engage on the topics and to discuss more deeply the reasons for Peterson's actions, but CHICKENED OUT, and preferred to live in the DELUSION of his own fake opposition. He could have discussed with Peterson his disagreements, but chose to abdicate that responsibility. Instead, he preferred to judge from a safe distance and to pretend his own status as a benign observer, when in reality he was protecting his own toxic bias.

He had the opportunity to help Peterson see a different viewpoint or to risk himself finding Peterson's viewpoint, but he chose, instead, to protect the source of his outrage from exposure. That is an extreme of dishonesty that no one deserves.

Both Jordan Peterson and the Leftist Media have this huge misconception that the Right can also be tyrannical. This confusion is by design, because the Left is all about deception. The Right is all about individual liberty and responsibility; the Left is all about Big, Centralized power and responsibility. And because people tend to be selfish, the individuals in positions of power tend to abuse those positions for selfish purposes. This notion of an Alt-Right is merely a distraction; a perversion meant to throw off those who are searching for meaning and Truth. If you ask the Neo-Nazi about their beliefs, you will find that those beliefs are very similar to those of the Communist, the Socialist or the Fascist. All started as popular (democratic) uprisings. They clamor for centralized control by the experts who pretend to know better than the rest of us. But as Thomas Sowell said, they are merely the self-proclaimed "anointed" who have an unrestrained vision of man's ability to "fix" everything in the world. Thus, we get the Terrors of the French Revolution, where speaking out meant losing your head -- quite literally. We get the Killing Fields of Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge.

Here is the essence of Jordan Peterson:

"Life is suffering. Love is the desire to see unnecessary suffering ameliorated. Truth is the handmaiden of love. Dialogue is the pathway to truth, so speach must be untrammeled so that dialogue can take place, so that we can all humbly learn, so the truth can serve love, so that suffering can be ameliorated, so that we can all stumble forward towards the Kingdom of God."

Jordan Peterson is willing to hug a gay man in public and on stage, because they are true friends. But he is not willing for the government to compell him to use specific language. That's at the hear of the controversy.

I dare say that every trans person would be outraged if they were compelled to speak a certain way that did not match that with which they were comfortable. So, in a very real sense -- a sense that they are completely missing -- they are agreeing with Jordan Peterson and should see him as a true friend.

What is missing from this film is digging more deeply into the fallacies used by Peterson's critics. Did they realize that they were misconstruing his message? Did they understand that he was advocating freedom of speech for everyone, INCLUDING THEM?

A Man Standing Up To Government Over Reach
celt00731 December 2022
Being legally compelled to use certain speech is just wrong .

This is how Communist Russia started , a thousand little cuts . ( cuts being seemingly harmless policies and laws) .

This is the start of a global liberal agenda . Terribly dangerous .

Peterson is right . This has nothing to do with trans people and pronouns this is about something else .

The facts show that this bill c 16 was nothing more than Trudeau's Government taking away rights and slowly changing laws .

History will show Trudeau is a tyrant . His handling of the freedom convoy is the ultimate slap in the face of freedoms .

Much needed "look under the hood"
kdw-641761 February 2023
A well organized documentary that allows the viewers a look in to the human side of the most popular intellectual in modern history.

If you're someone that hates Peterson, this documentary may serve as a look at the other side of the argument and address some of the core issues people have with a man that stands for what he believes is right.

Starting off in 2015 this is the story of Dr. Jordan B. Peterson's rise to fame. Some of the footage appears to be from much earlier than 2015 just based off of his physical appearance, including some rare but brief footage of him when he was a young Harvard professor.

If you're going to take a firm stance on Dr. Jordan B Peterson, than you had better watch this video before doing so.
