A good family movie
lisafordeay16 January 2011
I saw this on TV yesterday and I had no idea what it was about as I never seen this film before so I decided to check it out.

The movie is based on a true story and its about a policeman named Dan(TV SUPERMAN'S DEAN CAIN) who's dog Ace is framed for attacking a criminal. The owner of course has to try and prove that the dog is innocent and as the dog is suppose to be put down the dog escapes and he tracks down the criminal for what he has done to him.

The film was really well put together and the story was nice. I liked the dog as he was adorable and there was an odd scene where I would get very emotional as a lot of animal movies are very emotional to watch.

If you never seen this film before then check your DVD store near you or if its on TV again check it out its good.

Corny, but I cried
sharkey1974 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit that any film that features a dog runs the risk of turning me into a water works, because nothing gets me like dogs. I ordered this movie from On Demand because of the dog plot line and while it is a little corny and lacking in logical elements, I have to admit I enjoyed it. And anyway, it was all worth it for the great moment when Ace comes running across the yard, breaks through the glass door and takes down the bad guy. I was cheering, which woke up my two pooches who then barked till the end of movie.

It did seem like they went to put the dog down rather fast. I think that you would be required to have a hearing or something first. At least, I hope so for the sake of all those canine doggies who risk their lives to help people. And while German Shepherds aren't my favorite breed, Ace was adorable.

Watch it for the fun.

35 mins in I Turned it off
joanleggio29 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I got 35mins into the movie and turned it off. There is no emotion in this movie at all. There would have been a full investigation into the bites before anything would have happen to the dog. They wouldn't just say "oh ok he bit someone, so we are just gonna put a $25,000 dog down". Really... and the guy who owned the dog doesn't even put up a fight? The family was just all like "oh I'm sorry. It's terrible. But sit with us and eat". Really. I'm not a police officer and my dog isn't my shield and I didn't pay $25,000 for her but it would take a w Whole lot more then someone saying " hey we're gonna put your dog to sleep like right now" for them to even get anywhere near her. Total emotionless acting.

Young "Nancy Drew" wannabee helps solve crime.
TxMike12 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Fairly enjoyable movie, set in Washington, filmed in Canada.

I like the story presented here but was really annoyed by some of the dialog and directing that had characters doing incredibly stupid things at times to advance the plot. But overall it is a feel-good movie.

Dean Cain is K9 cop Daniel Harding, he and his "shield" Ace seem to be the best. There has been a rash of domestic break-ins while homeowners are away, and the prime suspect appears to be a thug with a record, Mike Dopud as Torko. But they are having trouble pinning anything on him. Plus he uses a trick to get K9 dogs off his trail.

Canadian actress, young Britt McKillip is Julia, Daniel's daughter. She is really interested in investigative things but dad keeps dismissing her. Anne Marie DeLuise, another Canadian, is good as the mother, Lilly Harding.

SPOILERS: Ace gets on Torko's trail, but when the cops get there they find Torko's throat gashed and bleeding, apparently from being bitten by Ace. As this is strictly prohibited behavior, Ace is ordered put down. But he escapes and eventually works his way towards home. Meanwhile Julia finds evidence of crimes in Torko's home, while police study video that showed Torko inflicted his own wounds, and Ace was cleared. Torko goes to Julia's home to harm them but dad and Ace independently show up in the knick of time to subdue Torko. Dad learns to pay more attention to his daughter and respect her judgment more. And, mom and dad take that long postponed honeymoon.

Dean Cain
freakfire-125 June 2008
I really cannot imagine Dean Cain without tights. Every time I saw Dean, I thought about him busting out his Superman spandex costume and flying around with the dog. That would have been entertaining and made for some good laughs. No, instead we are treated to the most unoriginal and fatally flawed dog movie I have seen in a long time.

Dean has a dog, whom is his partner in the K-9 Unit of his local police force. He encounters a man, whom is believed to be a serial burglar. The dog takes him down, but gets blamed for an attack because there is no proof at the time to the crook and his involvement in the current crimes. You can guess the rest after that.

The whole movie is corny. Why couldn't they view the video footage until so late in the movie? Why did they let him go so quickly when they suspected him in a wave of crimes? The police can hold people for 24 hours at least until they view material in question. But no, it just gets ignored.

Of course, everything turns out super in the end. There are hugs, awards given, and Dean Cain smiles. But I didn't see anything other than that that made it worth watching.

Overall, this is a bad movie. Even Richard Karn and Kirk Cameron can do a better job than this. Dean Cain should be ashamed of himself. "F"

Great Family Movie
debbie-44216 September 2008
This was a wonderful movie for the whole family. There was no profanity and very little violence. If you like dogs, you'll like this movie. My husband said "I don't know why there can't be more movies like that one". It kept all four of us, Mom, Dad, husband and me totally interested right up to the very end. I am usually doing some kind of project while we watch a movie, but my project didn't get much accomplished during this one. We all felt the acting was good and Ace was great. Police dogs have to be very well trained and this one really fits the bill. It would have been nice to know where the story was supposedly taking place. We figured out it was in the State of Washington because they talked about Spokane and Wenatchee but never could figure out where the Harding family actually lived. We all definitely give the movie a "Thumbs Up"

Ace of a bad movie
beammeup-295547 August 2023
This movie is bad! So bad it's hard to fathom how it could be worse. It's so bad it's funny. It's not even good in the made for tv category. The general premise of the movie is solid, beyond that it's garbage. The acting is so bad I feel uneasy calling it acting. The script is ridiculous and stretches incredulity beyond belief. Towards the end I was wanting to throw things at the tv. It's a cheap production, the sets are lacking, the lighting is amateur, the direction is also amateur. Editing is rough and the music sounds cheap as well. I had to apologize to my family for putting them through this miserable movie. Don't waste your time on it.

Great Family Film!
heh081526 May 2008
This is a great film for the whole family. We picked it up over Memorial Day weekend and it contains some really wonderful acting (Warning - I've been a huge fan of Dean Cain since Lois and Clark) with the little girl and the dog stealing the show.

The premise of the story is that the family must save their dog from a criminal that has framed it for a crime.

Although the girl must play a bit of a junior detective to save their dog, there is nothing in it (regarding the dog) that will make the kids cry or anything.

The movie is put out by FoxFaith and does have some elements of religion but nothing that is "preachy" or anything.

The producers put out a wonderful "Junior Detective Guide" to accompany the film that your kids can play along with on FoxFaith.com Again - I give it 9 out of 10 stars as it has something for the whole family.

It would have been 10 stars had it NOT been for the LIE
richardbrutledge22 June 2020
I'm really getting fed up with illiterate movie makers. When you START a movie off with BIG BOLD PRINT: "BASED ON A TRUE STORY" and you end it with the very last inch of film in fine print: "All characters and events are fictional. Any similarity to any actual persons or events is strictly coincidental..." ONE OR THE OTHER IS A BLATANT LIE--either that or the people putting this together are totally illiterate.

Great for dog lovers
CSpecialLady19 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I haven't seen the movie in a few years but since I own it on DVD, I just watched it again. It is a feel-good movie. Based on a true story, but like someone else noted, if it's based on a true story, why the disclaimer at the end?

It's about a police officer, Daniel Harding (Dean Cane) and his K-9 partner & "shield", Ace. The dog gets accused of biting a burglary suspect during a take down. Dan and other officers protest, saying that Ace is too well trained to bite a suspect, but Ace is still sent to Wenatchee for disposal. Ace escapes but Dan is sent ashes, so he believes Ace has been put down but Dan's daughter, Julia, believes Ace is still alive. Dan dismisses her thinking she's just dreaming/wishful thinking.

The police chief watches video of the original take-down after the criminal gets set free and sees that Dan was right. He apologized for hastily ordering Aces' disposal. Julia does some investigating on her own and ends up leading the thief home to her house. Just as he is attacking Julia & her mother, Ace busts through the glass and attacks the criminal. Dan arrives shortly after, and all ends up well.

It's a bit cheesy but the story is still a good one. Definitely a great family movie. No foul language and no sex scenes, which makes this a wonderful family movie. I wish more movies were made without the foul language and stupid sex scenes. Those directors certainly lose a tremendous number of viewers.

Great movie for dog lovers
ami372717 August 2011
This movie is now (8/17/11) playing on Encore Family. I read the description and decided to watch the 1st few minutes to see if it was worth watching...it was. A heartwarming tale of a K-9 Police officer and his dog, Ace, who had saved his life before becoming his partner. The story revolves around the hunt for a serial burglar and the officer's family including 14 year old daughter who longs to become a police officer and gain her father's trust and respect as she plays detective throughout the movie. Ace tracks down the burglar but is accused of violently attacking him and therefore must be put down. It is up to his human family to prove his innocence as he does all that it takes to get back home. And of course there's the burglar who is free due to lack of evidence to take down.

A must see for families and dog lovers of all ages.
