Breaking Even finds vaudeville comic Tom Howard looking to save another vaudeville comic George Shelton from doing himself in with a loaded revolver. This was the Depression and a lot of folks were contemplating moves like these.
Shelton is depressed and acting kind of weird as he feels he's down and out. Howard helps him and tries to instill a new philosophy of life based on the absurd. It may just all be a little too bizarre for Shelton as he wonders just who's the crazy one around here.
In the end an answer is found for all concerned. Breaking Even isn't about especially funny lines. But it does create some absurd situations that anticipate the Monty Python troupe by about three generations.
