Goofs

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty

Edit

Factual errors

Kareem Abdul-Jabar is seen drinking beer with his teammates after the Lakers win the Western Conference Final in 1980. Jabar is a Muslim and Muslims are forbidden to drink alcohol.
Magic Johnson is driving into the Forum in 1983 Corvette during his rookie season of 1979-80. That style Corvette hadn't been made yet.
The meeting between Jerry Buss and Red Auerbach at the Forum never took place. It was done in the series strictly for dramatic purposes. Despite the rivalry between the Celtics-Lakers, Red and Buss remained very respectful of each other though they did have a "friendly banter" between them. They both admitted to hating the Detroit Pistons during the "Bad Boy" era and even called each other wishing each other luck whenever the Celtics or Lakers played the Pistons.

Anachronisms

The Boston Garden has Pepsi signs on all four corners. The Boston Garden never had Pepsi signs in the arena. In fact during the time of "Winning Time" the signs above the tunnels were Molson Beer and later Busch Bavarian Beer.
Pat Riley is seen smoking both Marlboro and Camel "unfiltered" cigarettes in between shots.
The box of cigarettes on Jerry Buss's desk. One shot has Buss with a box of Marlboro's and in the next shot he has Winston's.
Magic Johnson, Jerry Buss, Pat Riley, and Paul Westhead are seen drinking the more modern 2022 style cans and bottles of Miller Beer. The cans of Budweiser that Larry Bird is seen drinking as well as cans of Coors that Norm Nixon and Pat Riley are drinking are the more accurate early 80's styles of cans.
When David Stern has dinner with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, several extras are seen drinking Michelob Ultra and there's a Michelob Ultra sign in the far background. Michelob Ultra did not exist during the time of the series.
