Herbert T. Gillis: Son, is this the book you were looking for?
Dobie Gillis: Oh, yeah. Thanks, Dad. I don't know what I'd do without you.
Herbert T. Gillis: Yeah, neither do I, but just thinking about it has made my whole day.

FRIENDS ARE FOR SUING --OCCASIONALLY.
A very funny and clever episode, well written by series regular Dean Riesner. Obvious a slap at the PERRY MASON tv series, Dobie's dad, Herb, is sued by Maynard --all because he sprained his wrist in a "defective" gumball machine. BUT... Maynard doesn't really want to sue good ole Mr. G, so he gets some advice from a crafty retired attorney (well played by veteran Douglas Dumbrille). His suggestion: INSTEAD he cut out the middle man and just sue the insurance company!
Grizzled Charles Lane is at home playing the court attorney called Chester Wayzack. You also have to love the character names, again thanks to Dean Riesner. Dumbrille's character is called Professor Brinkerhoff.
There's a goofy scene between angry Herb and Wayzack peeling through a thick law book to determine how much various lawsuits costs --including a punch in the nose??? Popular actor Wallace Rooney plays the judge. Rooney appeared in tv westerns for years, but is perhaps best known as Bishop Michael in THE EXORCIST.
Cult film actress Judy Bamber plays secretary Miss Jones.
Watch for the WILD courtroom scene ending with some gymnastics from Bob Denver!
