Learn more- The episode opens at the Andes mountains sepearating Chile and Argentina. Thrax is present with the support of Abel Squad and professing to the Neo Sapiens hiding out that "The War is over!" He assures them that no harm will come to them. Suddenly a jumpy Wolf Bronski alerts JT of some movement. The movement is the Neo Sapiens processing out from their hiding place in a cvae behind the falls. We then cut to Chicago ("formerly Phaeton City" as the episode notes, keeping with the now current situation). We see Neo Sapiens being rounded up in paddy wagons of a sort and disarmed. The human looks as if she may shoot the Neo Sapien with his own sidearm that she takes from his person, but she tosses it on the ground as if to say that she's had enough fighting. We then go to the newly liberated Isle of Pines war prison where we see Sean Napier's old girlfriend (anchorwoman who betrayed them to the Neo Sapiens early on as a sympathizer) walk out of her confinement in time to see a Terran pull down the Neo Sapien flag. She openly weeps. We see the Easter Island base wave the white flag. The Neos there look weary. We then return to the Manaus, Brazil, the place where "Dark River" occured. They seem to be keeping Neo Sapien prisoners there on the barge where Thrax commanded other Neos such as Medusa for a time. Thrax pulls J.T. aside and asks about Kaz Takagi. J.T. says that he was in his squad during the war. Thrax looks disappointed to hear that Kaz is no longer withthe living, J.T. smiles and says that he's okay, but is on assignment at Exofleet Academy with Avery Butler and may be regretting life at the moment. We cut briefly to the academy where Kaz informs Drill Sergeant Butler that he doesn't really care about being an officer, but says that J.T. suggested that if he can't follow orders, he may as well learn to give em.
Back at the barge in Manaus, Brazil we see the old squad laughing at Wolf and his budding relationship with Eve Handley of the Earth Resistance. He wines about being picked on and tosses the attention back on Kaz, since he isn't here. Maggie Weston then remarks that neither is Alec Deleon. She gets up, excuses herself, and walks out. J.T. follows her above deck where she looks up at the moon remarking that she used to love the moon, but that it's not just the place where they lost Alec. J.T. says that it's still the moon and that Nara is going back to Venus to help rebuild and that Maggie should go with her and give her a hand (to get her mind off of Alec). Maggie then asks J.T. what he's going to do now that the war is over. J.T. says that he doesn't really know. Maggie coyly says that maybe he should join the jump troops (in reference to his budding relationship with Colleen O'Reilly).
Back in the jungle, Thrax and some of Abel Squad hunt down hold-outs to tell them that the war is over. Thrax spots Talamacus in the jungle, frozen and genetically altered. J.T. says, "Ketzer" (in reference to Dr. Ketzer from the episode "Dark River"). He yells for them to get out of there, but it's too late and the ambush is on. They shoot from the trees and pin in the squad. Nara chases Dr. Ketzer and Thrax fights his way through the area, only to come across Medusa, a female Neo formerly under his command, who tries to do something to him by use of her eyes (yeah, yeah, it's Medusa after all). J'T' shoots her off of Thrax and she runs into the jungle. We then cut to Nara getting shot int he back and falling into a pool. She emerges as Ketzer and two of his experiments capture her. By use of his E-Frames cloak ability, Marsala ambushes the capteurs and gets Nara back, looking very relieved and pleased.
We then return to Venus one month later. Marsala's E-frame speeds through the air and we get a quick shot of Shiva's grave, and then Paul, Mary, and James Burns. Nara thanks Marsala for the lift and then asks him to stay and help rebuild. He tells her that he must return the Vesta to debate the future of the Neo Sapien race. She asks if he'll return in the future, he basically says that the future is unknown. She begins to tell him how she feels and he touches her cheek and tell her that he cannot be a part of her life. He says that she has roots here and that she will marry, raise a family and continue to live there. He says that his destiny is a different one, but that he will return to visit her, if he may. He walks off and gets into his E-frame, flying off. Nara says, "Goodbye..Marsala," and cries a green tear. She wipes the tear and her hand glows. She touches a dessicated tree and it springs to life, renewed by her touch, a gift of Dr. Ketzer's experiments. She looks physically drained.
We then go to the Homeworlds Senate Chamber and Marsala adressing the gathered Terrans. He says that the Neo Sapiens one fatal flaw is that they cannot reproduce naturally. He says that without children, parents, grandparents, they do not feel a part of the natural order. Sean Napier and Nick Tyrie (Australian Resistance) are seated behind him in support. He propses on last brood be created, with the ability to reproduce sexually. This is greeted by outrage by the gathered Terrans, but he presses on that only when they have meaning and the ability to explore life like this will they be truly human.
At Phaeton's bunker Dr. Algernon poses the dilemma that Exofleet faces with what they found there. Phaeton created clones of all of his generals, even one of himself. Exofleet can't figure out what to do with them, especially the clone of Phaeton. They don't wish to unleash another Phaeton on the world, but this one hasn't done anything wrong. Maggie Weston is revealed to be there and asks why Dr. Algernon asked her to be there. He says that perhaps Galva (the last remaining Neo Mega) can answer that. Galva says that when he was working there under Phaeton, he had learned that Phaeton had sent a Neo Mega disguised as a fallen Exo Trooper Alice Noretty to infiltrate Abel Squad and get to J.T. Marsh. He then reveals that he has duplicated the experiment with one difference. He downloaded the memories of a E-frame's black box into the body of a cloned trooper. Maggie starts to question who it is when we're greeted by the voice of Alec DeLeon. She looks incredulous for a moment and asks if it's really him. Galva says that his internal organs are Neo Mega, but all that nade Alec DeLeon unique is there. Alec then says to Maggie, "I knew you'd save me." They share a tender embrace while Galva and Dr. Algernon look on passively.
The voice of Sean Napier opens the scene at a Neo Sapien internment camp. He says that Marsala gave a speech at the Senate that prompted the homeworlds to authroize the production of one last brood of Neo Sapiens, ones that can reproduce. A Neo Sapien in the crowd pulls a handgun and shouts, Remember Phaeton!" Marsala helps to cover Napier, but a clone of Shiva breaks up the assasination attempt and, with outward contempt, throws the handgun at the feet of Marsala and Napier. He then walks out of the room, silent. Napier and Marsala come to find Shiva in a room by himself. Napier states the obvious about the Neo Sapien being General Shiva. Shiva responds that the original was killed on Venus and that he is a clone. Napier then tells him that both sides have made mistakes and that it is time to work together. Napier holds out a hand to shake Shiva's. Shiva looks down at it and says, "The past cannot be forgotten." Marsala and Sean Napier look disappointed, but he continues on saying that if Napier means what he says then he will be glad he saved his life. This scene is reminiscent of the incident whereas Napier saved Phaeton from a human assassin in the opening mini-series. Phaeton held out his hand in thanks, Napier refused to shake his hand then.
Down in Wyoming the scene of a ranch is interrupted by J.T. descending in his E-frame. Admiral Winfield jumps off the fence and goes to greet J.T. J.T. tells Winfield that he's leaving the Exofleet, that he was never really a military man. Winfield looks disappointed and tells J.T. that he was the finest soldier he ver commanded, but to also put off his decision to help Simbaca dismantle the pirate clans on Chaos. The clans want and Exofleet officer to help divide up the properties, and they want him namely. He flies off to Earth orbit where he meets the pirate Hollis, fitted with a new exo-skeleton due to his injuries. He tells J.T. of their plans to set up a science outpost with the help of Galva and Thrax and a platoon of jumptroops led by Luitenant O'Rielly. Marsh looks a bit shocked at Colleen's sudden appearance, but happy. He tells her of his plans to leave the fleet and then boyishly asks her of her plans. She says that even after all that has happened, she'd like to see the stars and explore. J.T. looks at her and says, "I guess some things are always out of reach." He walks away quickly and O'Reilly asks him to come with her to the stars, she doesn't even notice that he's gone.
In Mars orbit Dr. Algernon's voice asks, "Do you know what gravity is?" Alec and Maggie are there and she says that she thought he was the only one who knew. He says that she's quite right, but that gravity is the response matter makes to the lonliness of space. "It's love you see, love that moves the stars. Phaeton thought that destroying a planet would be the ultimate display of power, that was his lack of imagination. The ultimate power is the power of creation." Dr. Algernon gives a moving bit of dialogue, out of character to a point. This may be why it's so poignant. Using the Grav-shield technology, he restores Mars.
Back on Chaos the pirates are packing with the help of the exofleet, namely the jump troops. Pellegrino complains, but O'Reilly gives him the order he needs to get his butt in gear. Marsh is walking through, overlooking progress when Hollis radios him urgently about an unidentified craft approaching. The radio cuts out and J.T. gets to his E-frame to investigate with Colleen calling after him about where he's going. He flies off calling for Marsala. A flaming rock cuts across the view of the pirate ship housing Thrax, Hollis and Galva and Galva radios to Marsh that the object is excelerating. Marsh cries that he's already going at full speed and tries to lock weapons on it. It begins to orbit Chaos rapidly and shoots an electrical discharge disabling J.T.'s frame. The object encircles Chaos, shooting purple energy at it. Hollis cries for J.T. and the object encircles Chaos faster until it seemingly condenses it down completely. J.T. says to the object, "What did you to with them? An entire planet." Reflectively, we see a new ship appear and take the flying object into it. The design is completely alien and looks to have an organic look to it, almost resembling a lionfish. It's joined by other ships of the same type that look to have jellyfish-style tentacles hanging down from them. They glow with a phosphorescence and proceed deeper into the solar system, leaving J.T. Marsh alone in deep space. The series ends on this cliffhanger.
