So Who Was the Deer Head Fellow?
richard.fuller118 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
A real clunker episode, most notable for its multi-cultural inclusions.

Tho the Chans may be Asian-American, it is still quite remarkable to see major characters, and so many of them, in a cartoon, even at this time in the early seventies, who are not Caucasian Americans.

So the Chans are now visiting somewhere in Bavaria, Germany? Switzerland? Henry and Stanley enter a clock shop.

We are then given performing gypsies and their dancing bear.

And we are shown the valuable town icon, a piece on a mantle in the town hall.

The icon is stolen! The gypsies are suspected, as well as the guard.

Of course no one suspects the mayor.

Suddenly, strangely, the middle four kids are pursued by a fellow adorned in a deer head, complete with antlers. They must hide from him.

Who on Earth was this supposed to be? A henchman of the thief? Later still, Henry and Stanley are chased by a fellow with a simple white sheet draped over his face.

About the most entertaining aspect was the leader of the gypsies, followed by an assortment of Chan kids, who sneaks off to enjoy a meal of tacos and enchiladas.

He says if the other gypsies knew for his fondness of these delicacies, they wouldn't let him be the gypsy leader.

I guess that cheap Americanized food can even appeal to the most die-hard of the European sect.

In all, this one episode crossed four different cultures; Asian, the gypsies, the European country and the Mexican treat.
