Herbert T. Gillis seems to be spending Xmas in the klink - of his own accord. Dobie recounts the events that got him there.
DOBIE GILLIS produced an Xmas episode in every one of its' four seasons and this first-season offering is the best of the bunch.
The episode is elevated by some wonderful characters actors. A young Jack Albertson plays the cop. You may not recognize the face at first (I didn't) but the voice is unmistakable. The two female customers who push Herbert over the edge are played by Marjorie Bennett and Verna Felton. Each almost steals the episode. By the time they exit their respective scenes you completely understand why Mr G. Wants to stay in his cel until Xmas is all over.
Rarely-seen older brother Davey Gillis - played by Dwayne Hickman's real-life brother Darryl - shows up in one scene. Herbert tells Dobie to get Maynard a bath for Xmas and later throws a turkey through the glass window of his grocery store.
If anyone ever deserved to say "Bah! Humbug" it was Herbert T. Gillis back in 1959. 8/10.
