At predominantly white institutions (PWIs), there is often a disparity between the general student body and the minority population. While there is extensive research on minorities in PWIs, there is limited research on administrative resources made available to these minority students. Athletes at these universities are, particularly at risk. Depending on the sport that is in question, you can see that there will be varying displays of diversity. This makes it hard to fully understand the athlete as a whole. May it be by social, academic or even athletic ability, it becomes hard to measure the full extent of an athlete as a whole. This is especially the cause at NCAA Division I institutions such as Villanova University. Our film looks to define culturally competent support as university actions that address the needs of their students without being affected by racial biases or a lack of cultural understanding of what it means to be Black at a PWI.
