- Mike decides to drop out of the athletic trials to avoid publicity. The first formers make Chilli Con Carne to sell as an alternative to the hunger lunches.
- Sitting in a café, Robbie encounters Derek, who witnessed his involvement in a pub brawl. Derek makes it clear he's happy that Robbie's kept quiet about what happened, even though it's clear that Robbie and Mike weren't really party to the violence. He introduces his yobbish friends, and together they head off for the match. When they get to the terraces, their interest seems more in confronting the opposition's fans than football. Afterwards, and out of his depth, Robbie is anxious to escape, but before he can, there's a tussle with a rival gang. The First formers plan to capitalize on the hunger lunches by cooking up a vast amount of Chilli con-carne to sell. Ronnie has lunch with Calley and her boyfriend, but her non-stop anti-vivisection talk drives him bananas and they are soon at loggerheads. When Ronnie suggests that someone is driving around picking up cats and dogs for experimentation, he suddenly seems to be quite knowledgeable about the subject. Georgina asks Julie Corrigan to stop following her in front of Alice. Georgina wants Mike to arrange a double date with Robbie and Aichaa. Mike becomes concerned that publicity he receives from his athletics trials might bring attention to his identity, and that he might be remembered as being present at the pub brawl. Neil Timpson becomes suspicious about the vast quantities of food being made in the cookery class but Jacko won't bring him into the secret. When chants of "Julie loves Georgina Hayes" are started by Alice, and she sprays water at them in retaliation, Timpson uses the diversion to spike the Chilli Con-Carne pot with a whole tub of hot Chilli Powder. Calley and Ronnie's animal rights tee shirts are (with reservations) okayed by Mrs. McClusky, but Mr. Hargreaves takes a tougher line, forbidding their use at school. Mike tells Mr. Robson that he won't compete for the athletic trials, making an excuse that he's sick of it. At the hunger lunch, Mrs. Monroe notices the suspicious activity at the bike sheds, as the first year's Chilli-Con-Carne goes on sale. Barry Timpson tries to muscle in on things, but before he can be served, Mrs. Monroe intervenes. Suspecting foul play, she insists that those involved, and the Timpson brothers, have the first servings. As the day ends, Mike's dad drives up to Mike and Georgina in a fury. He's been told about Mike's quitting of the athletic trials, and blames Georgina. Mike refuses to get in the car with his father, and walks off with Georgina...—Geffers
