The title of this comment may surprise some people. Regardless of how often Jake gets embarrassed by his parents' antics, he never has any ill will towards them, and the staff of American Dragon: Jake Long makes sure of that. Clear examples of this include "The Long Weekend," "Jake Takes the Cake," "Ring Around the Dragon," "Hero of the Hourglass," and "Hairy Christmas." And with the destruction of the Huntsclan in the should've-got-an-Emmy episode "Homecoming," the writers are lucky they have villains for the last episodes.

In this case, the villains are vampires, but these vampires suck dragon blood instead of human blood. You'd think that means Jake's in danger, and there's going to be a showdown, and you're right... except for the fact that they think dear old Dad is the American Dragon. The episode involves parents taking their kids to work, and those dragon-hungry vampires are posing as clients for the advertising firm he works for. Now Jake has to not only protect all Dragons and thus the rest of the magical world, but his father as well, without revealing that he's a dragon, and that such supernatural beings exist. The B-Story involves Spud working with his mother at her new pizza restaurant, and struggling to impress some high-profile food critic and his son.

Promos at the time suggested that this was the episode where Jake's father proves to be a force to be reckoned with, but this was already pointed out in "The Long Weekend." As dorky as he is, when it comes to the life of his kids, he's not the kind of guy you want to mess around with, even if he doesn't have the slightest idea what he's getting into. And though Dad doesn't end up saving the day as he did in "The Long Weekend," he still proves to be useful for something other than comic relief.
