No room at the inn
johno-213 September 2007
I recently saw this at the 2007 Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films. This is a dark comedy from David A. Nelson and his New Rebel Films, a company he launched last year. This is the story of a hit-man (Miguel Sandoval) tracking his contracted victim to a small town where he finds that the man he is looking for has checked into a rooming house. The killer finds the man is not there but the friendly innkeeper (Michael Learned) invites him to stay and have supper with her and her three little granddaughters. Nelson is the film's writer/director/editor/production designer and producer. A couple of top-notch actors in the two principal roles in Learned, a four-time Best Actress Emmy winner for The Walton's and Nurse and Sandoval who is a veteran character actor of film and television and a name you may not recognize but you will recognize his face when you see this short. It's well done with two great actors but a little predictable. I would give this a 7.0 out of 10.
