For what it is, I was genuinely impressed by how well it worked
Max is on the run from a quasi-military posse. They want to kill him. Outnumbered and caught in a pickle between the posse and enemy outpost one-eight, the odds are not in Max's favour. The intensity of such a tight squeeze would leave the average man for a sure slip, and death. But Max is not average Joe. Wit, agility, instinct and a little TNT are the tools of choice for Max to combat the red-necked savages.
The plot summary on the DVD suggested a tight thriller and I was curious to see how the team would do this with a low budget. My curiosity increased hugely when the first shot reveals this to be a film entirely acted out with Action Man dolls. This gives it a comic edge straight away but the film never actually takes it down this road and instead plays it as a surprisingly effective thriller with Max caught between two groups trying to kill him. The use of the dolls is good because it is never played for laughs but also because of how good the direction is.
The three men direct the action as if they were doing it for a cinema screen (which I suppose they were) and it works well as a result, producing some engaging action. The use of music should not be discounted either as it creates an atmosphere that helps stave off thoughts of how silly this could have been. It is still a thriller with Action Men though, so don't expect too much but, for what it is, I was impressed by how well it worked.
