Redemption for Randy Couture
Maniac-97 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Randy Couture at UFC 57 a year prior to this contest had just lost for the 2nd time in a row to Chuck Liddell by knockout. With Liddell reigning as champion of the 205 pound weight class there wasn't anyone for Randy to go in that weight class so he retired from active competition. But as the year went on his competitive juices were still flowing inside him he decided to go back up in weight to the Heavyweight division and challenge Tim Sylvia for the title. Randy a very undersized Heavyweight only weighed in at 222 while Tim Sylvia cut weight to just make the 265 maximum weight limit and Sylvia had roughly 7 inches of height on Couture. So with being out of action for about a year, giving up a lot of height and weight to a younger opponent it was viewed that Randy couldn't win this fight.

The fight started and the first thing that Randy did was knock Tim on his butt and follow that up with dominating Sylvia for the rest of the 5 round fight with Sylvia getting in almost no offense of his own having to play defense the whole fight.

The 2 co-main events featured 2 former UFC Champions also with former Middleweight champ Rich Franklin going against Canadian contender Jason MacDonald and former Welterweight champ Matt Hughes fighting veteran Chris Lytle.
