Harry Hill in 'Hooves': Live
jboothmillard27 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I had the opportunity to see this show live on stage, but I'm really glad I got it on DVD, I mean who doesn't like the comedian in TV Burp? Harry Hill here does his usual childish and eccentric comedy with just as many laughs as his television mockery show. Jokes I laughed at most included an audience member made to say "quack" and Hill throwing bread, talking about a mad and dead Nan, space missions and sweets on the journey (Tic Tacs, Fruit Pastilles and a Curly Wurly) being taken from him, hitting pizza boys in blind spots, allegorical things being compared to fish (nuts, fruit and crisps), Stouffer the Cat (of course), Gary (Harry's son from his first marriage), and playing The National Anthem (with other popular themes included) on an early electronic organ, honkers. The show also includes guests such as a Horsie, a ball boy, badger, and Harry Hill Sr. (I wouldn't think it was the real one). Harry Hill was number 5 on 100 Greatest Stand-Ups. Very good!

Lavish set with a great finale, but Hill is not on top form...

Warning: Spoilers
While some may despise the wackiness of Harry Hill, there is no denying that he is a comedian of great skill. His stand-up appearances on shows such as the 90's version of 'Saturday Live' were outstanding and his zaniness seemed like a breath of fresh air amidst the political comedy that reigned supreme.

His feature-length live shows too captured the warmth of his persona (a particularly funny performance was 1995's "Harry Hill Live") but this show, his most recent, while good in parts, is not Hill at his best.

Don't get me wrong; it was funny in parts - a particularly joyous moment being the ending. It's just that there were not enough laughs to make the performance a classic of contemporary stand-up. Personally, I feel his earlier work, some of which is viewable on Youtube, is a better testimony to the zany skill of this stellar stand-up.
