Mundl Sackbauer prepares for his weightlifting workout in the evening. When his son Karli tells him not to come to the workout because of a house tour with his fiancee Irmi, the patriarch Mundl responds very indignantly. It doesn't get better when Mundl's daughter Hanni announces marriage plans with the young poet Franzi who isn't highly appreciated by Mundl. He quickly shows his effervescent personality but his wife Toni brings him repeatedly to reason. The new lovers Hanni and Franzi meet in his home but she gets scared when Franzi becomes too passionately and she outs herself as a virgin. Because she is afraid that Franzi's mother could come home earlier than planned Franzi proposes to visit a hotel next Friday. Hanni is very anxious but finally they have sex together for the first time on Friday and they become engaged. The Sackbauer family makes plans for vacations in Italy. The loss at the weightlifting competition because of the absence of Karli makes Mundl very angry. Nevertheless he participates in the vacation planning. His brother Schani is persuaded to go with them. When Hanni joins them and tells about her engagement with Franzi and that he will go with them to Italy, Mundl loses his rag.
