This is a typical "GW," with red herrings all over the place.
The central premise is to reveal to another of Melinda's friends her "gift." In this case it's Delia, and is achieved with nothing less than her husband being the ghost in question.
What appears to be his attempt to stop her from developing a love interest turns out to be the red herring. As with all episodes, the mystery is only resolved in the last minutes of the show.
Lamentably, over the series, the various threads around Delia, whether it be tis one, or subsequent ones are abandoned, and those characters disappear. Much like other key figures in the series.
