Come to the aid of the party

Warning: Spoilers
As Sharon and Eric's engagement party draws closer, the other Gang members set about finding suitable partners to take to the occasion. Peter and Maureen have a blazing row which results in both refusing to attend. Dennis wants to buy Rose a dress, but his fashion sense is noticeably lacking and he buys something that looks like an explosion in a paint factory. Frankie asks Celeste, but she thinks he is proposing marriage instead of merely inviting her to a friend's engagement party...

This episode neatly brings Season 2 to a conclusion by having as many characters as possible ( sans Frankie's mother and Dennis' dad ). Surprisingly no-one mentions whether Mr.Hedges has been invited or not . I know John Alderton was busy with 'Upstairs Downstairs', but at least they could have provided an explanation for him not being there ( a similar thing occurred years later in 'Robin's Nest' when Robin got married and never thought to invite either the Ropers nor his best friend Larry! ).

Funniest moment - Frankie makes a grand entrance at the party, proudly twirling Celeste before him. She loses her balance and crashes to the floor, where she remains in an undignified heap.

The Gang returned for one final, shorter ( 8 episodes, to be exact ) run in May. It would not quite be the same though. Liz Gebhardt and Peter Denyer did not return. I do not know whether they left of their own accord or were dropped as had happened with Penny Spencer. Whatever the reason, the absences of 'Maureen' and 'Dennis' had a detrimental effect on the show.
