Meanwhile, Summer tells Seth that she feels that he should find something in his life that he really cares about, whereas Kirsten is having second thoughts about raising another child in the uptight community of Newport after she meets Holly Fisher and other 'Newpsie' women at a yoga class, all of whom are no older than their 20s. - Taylor has a dream 'present' in mind for her 19th birthday: a declaration of love from darling Ryan, so they can study in Berkely together. Despite lots of hints he says nothing, was about to but changes his mind when Sandy advises caution and since he doesn't want to commit fully just to say how much he enjoys her company. At Summer's instigation Taylor now resorts to 'truth serum': getting lover-boy drunk with coq-au-vin -her first home-cooked dinner for Ryan- and since that doesn't suffice a drinking game, but she ends up further in the wind, so she isn't quite sure if Ryan actually said the dreaded words. He regrets them instantly when she replies now they can go to Berkely together, which is a four years commitment. Taylor remembers in panic she wrote a letter declining a Berkely scholarship when ma mumbles she found and posted it, but her story is good enough to get 'federal property' back from the mailman. Now all Taylor's hope hangs on Ryan's present, but Seth made him doubt whether to give her the very fancy binding of poem translations by her hand he collected... Meanwhile Summer keeps Seth to his word when he claims the ecologist movies they saw at a festival are so amateurish he could make some, and a dead-simple 'satire' "six hours in the pool" doesn't count, so he starts filming Ryan... Mother nature has a nasty present in store, which shouldn't be one but nobody took the n-th earthquake-predictions seriously. Meanwhile Kaitlin tries to discredit Ryan's dad Frank in ma's eyes, as she still prefers Bullit as potential step-dad, playing dirty even by their standards; the Cohen parents have a reunion dinner with Jason Spitz.—KGF Vissers
