Summaries

  • It Will All Work Out: Saya must decide the fate of Diva's children. Goldsmith returns for one final showdown. The show ends on somewhat of a somber note.

Synopsis

  • Saya stands poised to run her sword through Diva's babies. "If we were to survive, I know for sure we'd be used as war weapons," she explains. "I don't ever want to see another war fought because of our blood." Kai steps forward and pleads with Saya not to kill the babies and herself, explaining that there will always be people in the world who won't accept others for being different but vowing to provide a safe home for Saya and the babies. Kai turns to Haji and asks that he second this promise but, in Haji's usual way, he simply answers that he will do whatever Saya wishes. Angry at Haji's lack of personal resolve, Kai slugs him. For the first time, Haji admits his love for Saya, and Saya admits that she doesn't want to die. For the first time, Haji says he's going to disobey Saya's wish and, also for the first time, Saya and Haji share a man-woman kiss. Kai reminds Saya of something their Dad George used to say, "Nankurunaisa - live for today but look forward to tomorrow."

Suddenly, David barges into the hall. The U.S. military has activated Plan D, the same option used to destroy the Yanbaru Nature Conservancy in order to wipe out all evidence of Chiropterrans. They have targeted the Opera House where scores of Chiropterrans are howling over the silencing of Diva-song. David has phoned Julia to ask her to collect whatever Intel she can on the military, and now he needs to get everyone out of the Opera House before the destruction begins. Julia phones back to inform him that planes have just taken off. Saya grabs the twins, and everyone starts to run from the hall when, suddenly, the roof caves in. Amshel has survived the electrocution and come to collect the twins. Saya grabs her sword and flies toward Amshel, but Haji intervenes, takes the sword from Saya, and stabs Amshel with it. As Amshel starts to crystallize, he runs his sword through Haji, just as the roof collapses on top of them both and the bombs begin to fall.

A month has passed. Kai, Saya, and the twins have returned to Okinawa and reopened Pub Omoro. David and Julia apparently have married, and Julia is pregnant. Joel reports that, since Diva's death, the numbers of Chiropterrans worldwide has decreased and expresses hope that the enzyme Julia has produced from Saya's blood will further reduce the Delta effect and maybe even help Lulu. Okamura and Mao are preparing to go off together to the Middle East in search of a story. Rumors are circulating that the terrible blast at the Opera House was caused by terrorists, but a special investigating committee is looking into the ties between Cinq Flèches and Secretary of Defense Grant. As the news of the investigation is being broadcast, a reporter looking very much like Nathan Mahler steps forward to ask a question. Haji has not been heard from, but Kai and Saya have hopes that he will show up out of the blue someday.

There is to be a party tonight at Pub Omoro for all of Saya's friends from both Okinawa and Red Shield. As the guests sit together at tables, enjoying Kai's cooking and each others' company, Saya goes outside for a breath of fresh air and finds that she can no longer hold herself up. Kai joins her, and Saya reveals that it's time for her to sleep. Kai wants to get Julia, but Saya asks him merely to take her to the place where it all started. Kai revs up his motorcycle, and they head for the Miyagusuku family crypt. As Kai carries Saya on his back up the stairs, Saya falls asleep. Kai picks up the photo of Riku, Saya, and himself that falls from Saya's hand.

"We love you, Saya," he says.

    THE END

Epilogue: Several years have passed. Kai and the twins have packed a picnic lunch and are paying a visit to the Miyagusuku family crypt when Kai notices a pink rose on the steps outside of Saya's resting place. "He's been here," says Kai and tells the twins to let the rose lay. "It's a gift for your auntie," he explains.
