When the cycling student turns from resetting the chain on Miss Yukari's bicycle to ask her about excusing his lateness, not only is the chain not reset, there is no sprocket on the wheel.

The first thing Yukari does after introducing herself to a brand new first-year class on the first day of school is introduce a transfer student. Everybody in the class is new to the school, so introducing a new student would be redundant.
