Space Academy--Hide and Seek
Scarecrow-8811 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
"Hide and Seek" is probably one of Space Academy's better episodes. It concerns the important destruction of a meteor (missed by Loki in charge of monitoring Sector 5 on the Seeker) heading for the Space Academy planetoid with the Seeker having only two chances to blast it due to their distance from it. Once it is destroyed the dust from the meteor has this strange "vanishing effect" that causes those of the small party on the Seeker (after returning to the SA planetoid to find everyone gone) to disappear one by one. It will be up to Laura and Peepo to come up with the solution needed (with help from her vanished brother, their mind melds barely working) to return everyone to their proper forms on the Space Academy station. Good vehicle for the character of Laura who winds up by herself with Peepo after Loki scoops up some fragments of meteor for them to analyze and vanishes himself. Laura reduces temperature of the station, Peepo will ionize the atmosphere, and perhaps by using the meteor fragments all will be well with the cadets (and Gampu) returning in the process. Seeing the station practically deserted is rather neat with just a handful of the cadets (Laura, Loki, and Paul; Gampu vanishes almost immediately after arriving at the derelict station) burdened with coming up with a solution to a rather tricky problem. What I liked about the show was during its temporary run all the characters had a chance to shine. This episode, it is Laura (with help from brother Chris "on the other side" communicating to her in minimum capacity) who has the opportunity to help save the day…well, her and Peepo both come up with the needed resolutions to the meteor scare. Loki's musical instrument, a rather nerve-rattling sound that reeks from it, is put to comic use again…those in attendance of its sound appropriately annoyed.
