  Patrick : Why would I hurt her? She was nice to me. We had nothing to do with her death.

  Emma : [Daniel restrains her]  Bullshit! Bullshit! You killed her! Everyone in this fucking village knows it!

• Daniel : Emma, calm down.

  Emma : He's gonna get away with it! Fuck!

  Daniel : Did you hear what he was saying? Some of it made sense.

  Emma : Whose side are you on?

  Daniel : I'm on yours. I'm always on your side. I'm just saying maybe he didn't do it.

  [she opens her door to get out, and he stops the car]

  Daniel : Emma, get back in the car.

  Emma : Well, then maybe it's time you weren't. That's what we've both been waiting for the past eight months, isn't it? One of us to end it.

  Daniel : Oh, this relationship ended the moment Kerry died, and you know it.

  Emma : You selfish asshole!

  Daniel : God damn it, Emma! She's dead! Can't you accept that?

  Emma : She died because of you!

  Daniel : What are you talking about?

  Emma : You had to propose to me before we went for Ireland. Why couldn't you have just waited? Why did you have to do it then? If I had gone with her, she'd be alive and everything would be okay. Our lives would be okay.

  [she begins to gasp for air] 

  Emma : Oh, god. Oh, my god. Oh, god. It's just like college.

  Daniel : What?

  Emma : [crying]  She killed herself. I know she did. She tried it before when we were in college. I went out. I came back; I forgot my license, and she was unconscious on the floor. There was blood everywhere. She slit her wrists. I miss her so much.

  Daniel : [holding her to comfort her]  I know. I know. I know. It's okay.
