Plot Summary

We first see Bianca Capello meeting in Venice with Pietro Bonaventino, a chance meeting, at which they both fall violently in love with one another. Pietro engages a band of musicians to serenade his lady love and another meeting follows. Here the lovers plan an elopement, and we next see them flying together to Florence, where Pietro's parents reside. During the flight, first in a gondola and afterwards in a carriage and pair, we are treated to some exceptionally beautiful natural scenery. At Florence, Bianca and Pietro are welcomed by the latter's Parents, and the happy pair become united in the bonds of holy matrimony, and are given a father's blessing. All goes well, until Bianca is attracted by a gypsy fortune-teller and induced to have her fate foretold. She is informed that she will become a queen. Then comes the meeting of Bianca with Francesco Medici, and Bianca, remembering that she herself is the daughter of a high Venetian family, becomes enamored of Francesco Medici. Soon after, Bianca's husband is assassinated, leaving her free to plight her troth with Francesco, to whom ten years later she is secretly married. The brother of Francesco, having elected to be a cardinal, could not become a king, and hence Francesco took that royal position, and he invites his brother to his palace to dinner, plotting meanwhile to get rid of him in order to effectually prevent his ever proclaiming his rights to the throne. At dinner, Francesco and Bianca place before the Cardinal poisoned food, but are induced by him to themselves first partake of the banquet, with the result that their designs recoil upon themselves, and they are both poisoned. The scene closes with the Cardinal divesting himself of his clerical robes and proclaiming himself king. Written by Bioscope - October, 21 1909
