Warning: Spoilers
The unwelcome persons are both American businessman Frank Ronce (Ed Devereaux) and Indian student Matthew Patel (Marc Zuber.)

Matthew came to Britain from India as a student and has qualified as a teacher. He has married an old friend of James Eliot but his student visa has expired and he now faces deportation.

Ronce is involved in a dispute with his daughter Katherine. She has been accused of hiring two men to steal a valuable painting which was later burned. Katherine accuses her father of being controlling and the painting belonged to her.

Ronce is keen on hiring Harriet Peterson and compiles a dossier on everyone he deals with. James knows of Ronce and dislikes both him and his daughter. He even alleges that Ronce has mafia links back in America.

I thought the story was humdrum. There are plenty of hints that Ronce is sinister but it never materialises. At the court it is Katherine who appears to be so unreliable. You wonder how this case managed to get so far. The only thing missing was a Perry Mason type breakdown on the witness stand.

As for the immigration case, Matthew Patel was too arrogant and aloof. No wonder James was exasperated. Again there were hints that Matthew might had ulterior motives. Did he not send his application for a visa extension in time as he wanted to be deported and force his wife to choose him. It seems that he did not want her infirm dad to be staying with them.

Once again these themes are not adequately explored. Instead veering off to how Matthew's wife could not move to India as she could not stand the heat and who would look after her father.
