The "Cold Case" creators show a lot of spunk when they go after thorny issues that others would not dare to go into. Take this episode, for instance. It deals with incest in such a subtle way that it is hard to imagine this subject to come in network programming since the matter that is at the center of the story is not exactly a household staple.
Socialite Lauren Williams' drowning was not treated as a homicide. The new owner of the ornate home, calls the Cold Case detectives because he has found scratches under the diving board that appear to be suspicious to him. The house has stayed empty since the death of Lauren, who was divorced from Stan Williams.
In flashbacks we are taken to the fatal night. It had begun to snow in the area. Stan, and his two children, Ginny and Tad, are celebrating his grandson's Matt birthday. Lauren Williams arrives unexpectedly. She doesn't take too kindly to Stan's new girlfriend. For that matter, Lauren is not exactly a mother that has endeared herself to her two grownup children.
After a night of nastiness, Lauren decides to take a swim in the pool. Matt, who has come to be with his grandma, finds much more than what a grandmother would like to play with the handsome son of her daughter Ginny. Tad surprises Lauren as she is about to make advances to Matt. At that point, one gets to realize this also went on with Tad. Lauren was a monster. The killer has just waited for Lauren's phobia of the dark to commit the crime.
Seith Mann directed the audacious screenplay by Tyler Bensinger, who is a collaborator of the series. The main attraction was Donna Mills, a gorgeous woman who is a monster. Ms. Mills is great to watch in her take of Lauren Williams, a real piece of work that destroyed everything in her path. Perry King, Scott Holroyd, and Kate Norby do good supporting work.
