Contains some good character moments, but the ending...

It appears that the writers have become content to acknowledge character points that have grown stagnant. As a result, the story ends up feeling unsubstantial despite some obviously important developments. Davis being left out to dry by T.K. and Kari is still amusing, but I can't help but feel that too little time has been invested in making something of this. It's been reduced to a mere running joke, and will sadly remain so for the rest of the series. Cody refusing to work with Ken is beginning to grow a bit tiresome, but the irony of their similarities is not lost on this show; recall their reactions to Paildramon in "Fusion Confusion". I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed the double act between Davis and Yolie, with their amusing efforts to get the other two to work together. I admit to having much higher opinions of these two than most, especially Davis, and watching them here only reinforces that. This really is one of the more understated relationships in the series. Among other things, I actually like the moment when Yolie slaps Ken because it seems appropriate given their future together. Speaking of which, Mummymon's romantic interest in Arukenimon brings something new to that side of the board and will provide many opportunities for humor and drama in the future.

Of course, the first fight with BlackWarGreymon is the highlight, possessing a very real sense of peril, especially towards the end. His departure is surprising, and would adequately transition into the next phase of the story if not for one big hindrance. How did the kids manage to escape after receiving such a tremendous beating? I suppose this could be passed off on the villains being more concerned about following BlackWarGreymon, but ultimately there's really no explaining it. It's just typical contrived villain foolishness, which is actually not uncommon in kids' shows. It happens all the time on "Power Rangers" and "Beetle Borgs". Heck, it even happens numerous times in the other digimon seasons. So yeah, this particularly big, BIG question mark that lingers over the end costs the episode some points.
