Nell is upset that the girls have all made plans to go out on Joey's first Xmas Eve with the family.
I used to love GIMME A BREAK during the first few seasons of its' original run so it pains me to say that this is one show that has aged terribly since the Eighties. This episode loses a lot of points for the fact Nell is just so nasty here. She overreacts to every little thing with such viciousness it's more off-putting than funny.
The writers stole the "I put the snow on" gag from a 1977 MAUDE episode - itself not a great one. Grandpa makes reference to two female shoppers "fighting over the last Cabbage Patch Doll". Those ugly things were THE "It" toy for Xmas 1983. The funniest part is when Nell rips a ten-dollar bill in half after the garbageman balks at the amount she gives him.
Hilda Haynes plays Nell's mother in this one just like she did in the funeral episode in Season 1 ("Nell Goes Home"). In later seasons, the role would be taken over by Rosetta LeNoire.
Could have been better had they written Nell a little more mellow in this one. 5/10.
