A big league thug has a public stenographer murdered and steals her short hand books. Even though the killer tries to hide the murder as a hit and run accident, the ruse is quickly discovered. The suspect has living at his house a young veteran who came out of WW II deaf and dumb. Kirby, who yet again never removes his hat or trench coat even indoors, traps the killer with a simple ploy to get his fingerprints. They then put a policewoman in the murdered woman's office and apartment and then wait for something to happen - which it does. I didn't expect the ending and it was strangely sad. This is the second "I'm the Law" episode I've seen that features Larry Dobkin - a different character each time. He did a good job as did June Vincent who played an acquaintance of the murdered stenographer. Vincent appeared on several Perry Mason episodes and she was so good I wonder why she didn't become a bigger name. Perhaps it was by choice.
