In the morning, a pregnant Kathy Roberts pays a visit to the office of Reverend Doctor Paul Keeler, drawn to The Friendship Lamp or the guiding light. Kathy had called Rev. Dr. Keeler to seek spiritual advice. But she admits to the reverend that what she really came for is that she feels maybe she should plead guilty in the murder of Bob Lang. Rev. Dr. Keeler gets Kathy to see that maybe she should not be a martyr with the baby on the way, and Kathy further admits that what is really troubling her is that the baby is not Dr. Dick Grant's (her current husband) but actually Bob Lang's. Rev. Dr. Keeler continues to advise Kathy that she really needs to let Dick take care of her and the child (and stay married to her) if that is what Dick wants. Kathy is not so sure, and admits she feels as if Dick is playing the dutiful husband out of a sense of misplaced duty. Later that evening, Kathy informs Dick that they should get a divorce due to the baby being Bob's. But Dick refused to grant Kathy her wish for a speedy divorce, even with Kathy's protest that he's staying married to her and going to take care of another man's baby only out of his sense of duty. Dick goes further and says it's because he loves her, but Kathy refuses to let him get close to her.
