The Steve Allen Plymouth Show
The Los Angeles Dodgers appeared on the show following their World Series win. Players Larry Sherry and Gil Hodges came on stage to receive autographs on a giant mock bat by Steve Allen and Teresa Brewer.
Show announcer Gene Rayburn had been instrumental in making Teresa Brewer a star. In 1949 he decided to attempt a hit recording of Music Music Music, a song that was not in favor at the time. He arranged for Teresa to record it and it was placed as the B side to Copenhagen. Then in his position as a morning DJ in New York he promoted Music on his show until it caught on. It was her first hit.
Steve and his band of regulars poke fun at beatniks in a coffehouse sketch,
and do a take-off on the Denny Band who specialize in jungle calls and noises.
