Detective stories in the third world
In this short by Vanessa Bárcenas -whom we hope to hear about more often- the classical elements of detective stories and noir aesthetics are put to use in an original and fresh way. The story is almost a tribute to the genre, while maintaing an original tone. The photography is sober enough to serve the plot and sufficiently elegant to be enjoyed as a piece of craftwork. The cast excels in their mute performances, especially lead man Miguel Ángel Lomelín. Lomelín goes to the very extremes to construct both a theatrical and realistic character whom we follow gladly throughout the plot. If you get a chance to see this, don't miss it.
